Psychiatry still seemed a liitle naive in the 1940s

Interesting use of the term "pattern" killer there, though the remarks about sadists being eccentric seems a little out of place

It should be noted that the interrogations of suspects in this case were very brutal and involved the use of strappado and "truth drugs"

Heirens was initially arrested for burglary and has since retracted his confessions to the murders

Thanks as usual for reminding of something.
August's Topic of The Month will be on "Did Jack Simply Stop ?"

Let me put it this way,Neems...since I believe Heirens is guilty...here again we have an instance ( as with the Atlanta "child" murders...and The Boston Strangler) of crimes ceasing when someone is locked up.

If Heirens wasn't guilty, then whoever did commit those crimes didn't replicate them in the vicinity. Same with The Strangler. These are just two of those "candlelight vigil people's" cause celebres. And its funny,Neems...because I believe those who state that DeSalvo wasn't the Strangler.

What does this mean ? Simply put, if Heirens wasn't the perp, then the real perp seems to have stopped. True...if Heirens wasn't guilty, then the real perp could have died, been locked up, or moved...just as with the real Strangler.

I'll put a lid on it until August and hopefully some of the Forums members will offer their views on JTR simply stopping...which is usually the 4th most likely view within the community. Death, incarceration,or relocation usually being ahead of "stopping" on any list.

I suppose someone else being put in the frame for your murders might encourage you to stop, if just for a while

I've always wondered whether watching an innocent guy take the rap, possibly being executed, would thrill the miscreant in certain cases

It would give the murderer a good idea of how he would be treated if caught, and what sentence he would be likely to receive

It's sort of a perfect crime to kill and then allow an innocent to take the rap, only to move on and possibly do the same in another area

As soon as I put that last post up last night...I thought along the same lines as your recent post... and I agree with you.

For people of that particular mentality, knowing someone else is taking the rap for your crimes could elevate the crimes to a different plateau to the real perpetrator as you suggest. In my opinion, you have a very good point.

It looks like William Heirens is dead.

I'm surprised it slipped under our radars:
