Rob and I mentioned this comealong cord and the link being made in the press to an American being JTR in our Ripperologist article.
Ptolomey also claimed that one of the sailors he saw Catherine Mylett with, earlier in the evening, looked like a 'yankee.' He didn't say why though.

Debs:

Was the gist within and of the source you and Rob provided in the article ( I'll be damned if I can remember what issue it was in ! ) basically the same as the Western Mail's, because as we see the source for the Western Mail article was the CNA.

I'd think it was virtually the same as the one you two provided, wouldn't you ?

How, obviously it was a circulated CNA story as out source was the Belfast Newsletter for the same date, 24th Dec. 88.
Ptolomey's statement about the yankee was in the Daily Chronicle.

..and our article was in Ripperologist 108, November 2009.

Thanks Debs ! At least one of us has a good memory.:(
The reason I asked whether it was basically the same information is that I wondered if anything in this Western Mail article was different or new.
Thanks for also hunting down the 2009 article.

How, I'm not sure, I would have to check the Belfast News article. I only pointed out that we had mentioned this comealong in the article because we mentioned that the press were trying to suggest Mylett's death was linked to JTR and that he was American. Ptolomey also mentioned a yankee. I've always wondered why Ptolomey thought that.

As you know, some papers also suggested a sailors lanyard with loops either end where a knife could be inserted and twisted was the murder weapon.
I wonder how either of these weapons fit what Brownfield observed, with the gap in the mark, on the left side of Mylett's neck?
