View Full Version : Cornwell's Book
Last I heard, and it wasn't that long ago, Patricia Cornwell had proudly declared that her case against Walter Sickert "only continues to grow stronger". Today you can find her book about Sickert remaindered in practically any discount outlet, and she has shut up like a clam about the subject of Jack the Ripper. Has anything happened here that I must have missed? I'm serious!! We all gleefully disparage her, and justifiably so, but what happened - anything? Or did she just declare victory, like Saddam Hussein did in 1991, and go home, hoping that no one would ask any more questions?

People.....Has Mrs. Cornwell ever been countered by any of the Detail-experts in the case, for example, like Mr. Sugden ?
Where there any nay-sayers at the C-Span press conference Mrs. Cornwell hosted last year ? I saw the program and concede that there may have been portions that weren't viewed for time considerations. From what I saw, there weren't any.
What a shame.:(

In the JTR The Definitive History by Paul Begg (that I just read) he brushes off the Sickert theory with all the royal theories from what I understood.
We congratulate you on the Cornwell expose.
Yeah, not many ripperologists take any of the royals theories seriously, and the Sickert story is pure fantasy, like that of the old woman who insisted that she was the long lost Anastasia.

I was finishing the book. I didn't want to answer till I read the whole thing.
cryptogram- I just had my last final exam. I have not had time for puzzles and all I can think about now is ABSINTHE.
As far as why are we talking abour Sickert:
Howard, if you read the whole thread, you would know that we are discussing more respected Ripper authours' reactions to Cornwell, not whether Sickert is a suspect or not.

I forgot to quote what exactly Begg says concerning Cornwell and Sickert:
"At the very best Ms. Cornwell may have demonstrated that Sickert wrote the Openshaw letter and perhaps some other correspondence, but this is a long way from demonstrating that he was Jack the Ripper, and Ms. Cornwell lost a lot of credibility when she argued that most of the extant Ripper correspondence was written by Sickert." (Begg, Paul. Jack the Ripper: The Definitive History. Pearson Education Limited. 2003.)

I was just happy to see someone put in print the truth about Cornwell's garbage she may have solved the mystery of who wrote one of the letters (if that).
