A little busy right now to post much other than just to say it was a very rewarding experience.

I'll fill you folks in and hopefully Kelly can as well.

Meanwhile...here is a photo I boosted off of Casebook of James Badal, the author of "In The Wake Of The Butcher".the book on the Cleveland Torso Killer....the guy standing in the hole is Andy Aliffe....and thats me on the right.

I think you're mistaken. It appears that Andy is actually standing on a BOX in that photo.
Like you, I'm still assimilating (and detoxing). I'll post a full report when I'm meself.

Just wanted to post a quick note to say how much I enjoyed meeting everyone at the conference. See you in 2008!

And what the hell's up with the Elizabetian pic? I am so not into ruffles. If you are going to avatar me in all my royal glory, I'd much prefer Leighton's the Accolade.

OK, but that doesn't look much like a mean queen to me. Still, the customer is always right. Although I confess that I was hoping you'd want the ATF girl.

My question has been answered, your royal excellency lady.

I suppose that Tim set everything up and thats why you are shown knighting him.

It was a phenomenal three days there....and a lot of that had to do with your efforts.

Great to see you here !

I prefer to view it as a man on his knees and a potential beheading. But you know, whatever makes you feel good.

I agree the conference was great!

I should chime in here too... I, too, loved meeting everyone at the conference.

Howard gets major kudos for being the one to find me when I wandered in late and get me situated by introducing people and pointing others out to me so I got acclimated.

Kelly, of course, rules supreme by running the "top 5" quiz at the bar that was a great way to get to know everyone (I missed out though when she asked the same question to Don Rumbelow and others later).

I have occasionally argued with Ally online, and she earned my respect at the conference... not just because she did a crackup job making things lively with the auction and in general, but she still threatened me with death even though we were in person. She's a straightshooter, which is a rare and valued thing.

And, of course a ton of other people... Stan (who seemed to miss out on a fair amount of the conference, or at least the parts I didn't miss out on) was a pal, and even got me a DVD player from the auction when he found out I didn't have one... now I just have to rent all the movies he reviews in his new book! Alan Sharp was a pleasure to meet, and I think of all the speakers there was probably the most up to date on recent developments in the field. John Malcolm was similarly laid back and down to earth. And of course lots of other people too, but I'm trying to name the ones on these boards. I've probably forgotten several, sorry.

Tell people something they don't know.

Something they don't know? Oh, OK...

Little known fact: Kelly is also the person who put the bop in the bop shoo bop shoo bop.

So far nobody is taking the credit for the placing of the ram in the rama lama ding dong or the dip in the dip da dip da dip.

Well for one thing....the Convention was too short.

If it was a week...that would be nice.:thumbsupbud:

But we would be broke....and I would need a liver transplant.

I also would like to thank Kelly Robinson for accompanying me in Washington and being a real treat to meet.

Kelly tolerated a stressed out and nervous old fart with tighter than tolerable boots on our excursion through our nation's current capitol ( Philly being the first.... ) and did some serious "splaining to me about the mundo art-o since I ain't leading the league in art appreciation.

She is a great person and and despite not being a fan of The Great Cheesesteak....yeah,a vegetarian.....I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I hope that Kelly will repeat our rendezvous either in D.C. or Baltimore for the next RipCon.

Now....where's the damned report from you on the Convention?

Howard Brown
05-03-2006, 08:00 PM
In addition......

I want the news to be known to one and all that I didn't chicken out of my scheduled wrestling demolition of Queen Mean out of fear...

She's just too damned pretty to muss up and was also a prime mover of the activities at the Convention....so,I uhh...let her slide...this time.

For one and all who didn't get to attend, for real...in all seriousness....it was such a nice time getting to meet people and just rap Ripper.

Larry Barbee, despite health problems, made it. Larry was a total gentleman and a pleasure to meet.

Leroy Stock is another hip dude...

Sir Robert Anderson, that son of a bitch, outbid me for the old Ripper Notes collection on Saturday night. Bob has a lot of good ideas on matters and was one of the East Coast Crips along with my goombah,Stan "Stosh" Russo...We had some good chats.

Everyone should consider attending the next gig in two years. Put away 10 bucks a week for 2 years starting now....and its a piece of cake.

Listen to your Howie !:thumbsupbud:

I'm still waiting to get my photos up, Mr. Brown. In the meantime, since Ally eschews photographs, here's a picture of my daughter in an Ally costume:

I putter around to a suitcase load of conventions (11 this year) but I'd trade 'em all for the crowd I get to hang with every two years in Baltimore. My IQ actually goes UP during the weekend.

I know, that probably doesn't take much effort on your part, but you guys are cool. Now I'm trying to figure out how to afford the trip to the UK conference.

Kelly,

That's not a bad Ally costume. Your daughter could use a big roll of raffle tickets or just go around and threaten photographers to make the disguise complete.

Jana,

Yeah, saw on your site all the conferences you were going to. That's quite the tour schedule. I thought it was only rock stars who lived out of their suitcases.

I'm a freakin' lunatic, that's what I am. :offinhead: And unlike a rock star, I don't have an entourage.

Jana hi :This is a relief to have another Queen on the site, your majesty...-Maria
Maria,
Hi to you! QEI - red hair, take-no-prisoners attitude and a tendency to chop off the heads of other annoying queens. (No, not QueenMean, but Mary, she of the Scots).

I've always admired Queen Eliz. #1. Amazing lady with some really snazzy clothes. Anyone who can rule an empire wearing a chemise, corset, farthingale and a ton of outer garments has my vote. I'll probably offend some on these boards, but I don't consider Victoria in the same league.

Hey there Jana,

I quite agree that Elizabeth was the Queen supreme, but the clothes? Ye gods it makes me itch just looking at her portrait. How's Fred? Personally I think he should be your avatar. :D

Kelly,

Rocking tiara. What's that they say, imitation is the best form of flattery? Inspiring younger generations I've never even met, I'm so proud. :)

During the Convention, they were also conducting a get together for Captain and Tenille fans ( Muskrat Love ring a sour bell ?) which totalled about 10 people....and in particular, these two totalled people.

These two drunks couldn't find their ass with two hands...but they found themselves.

Ain't ( muskrat ) Love Grand ?

The clothes would have made you itch because of the livestock (eeeuuuuu!) Sort of like hopping on an omnibus in '88. Lord knows what you'd bring home.

Fred is fine and keen to go on the road again. You read the ferret's stuffed mind -- he's agitating to have his picture taken. He would make a great avatar providing I can figure out how to upload his photo.

Andy is doing so much better these days. I'm sure he'll be discharged soon. No doubt it's the steady diet of CSPAN that's curing him.

I think you might be confusing a bourbon-induced haze with an adoring look. Not that I didn't swoon a LITTLE at finding another theatre-person-who-is-also-a-vegetarian (I HAD spent the day with Howard Brown).
But let's get to the most important part: Ally thinks I'm a babe Ally thinks I'm a babe Ally thinks I'm a babe.

A haze perhaps, but it had a sultry look to it. Of course, there were a number of fine gents at the conference upon which to gaze, in addition to the excellent Ripper content. Intelligence and handsome features. Never a bad thing.

Hi everyone!

How, I almost forgot to ask you....
Did you remember to ask Don Rumbelow what he thought of that Druitt/Hutchinson conspiracy theory?
If you did ask him, did he just laugh, or did he throw a tantrum over the theory being so ridiculous? ;)

And this is probably a dumb question, but does anyone know where the next Ripper conference is being held?

Cheers,
Adam. :D

Howard Brown

I didn't ask him as I forgot. He was speaking,so we listened.

My apologies.:o

The next one is next year in Britain. Then there will be one here in the States in 2008.

Hey How,

No worries. It's a probably a good thing for me that you didn't ask him.

Thanks for the info on the upcoming conferences. If I was a chance of going to either, it would be the one in Britain. Stuff going to the US - I couldn't put up with the accents, baked chops and people driving on the wrong side of the road. (They do that in Britain too, I think...but oh well.) ;)

Are you going to either/both of those?
What about others on these forums? Anyone else here planning on going to one or both of those conferences?

Cheers,
Adam. :D

I sure will try to go to England's convention. I hope to be able to round up enough money for it...

The Baltimore events are going to be a staple for me. Well worth the time and expenses.;)
