Thread devoted to discussing Thomas Cutbush and the consideration that of all the individuals throughout the latter portion of the 19th Century ( excluding modern "suspects" such as Sickert,Maybrick, and the like....)....that of all them, Thomas Cutbush is the single most important individual or at least, suspect, in this Case.

My contention that he is, is for the very fact that without him...and the follow up to the Sun newspaper article by Melville MacNaghten in the form of his memoranda....

No Cutbush....No Druitt,Kosminski,and Ostrog.

Anyone care to discuss this?

Hi Howard

I am not quite sure of the logic of your explanation, though I assume AP will approve you putting Mr. Cutbush at the top of the totem pole.

Cutbush of course is only in Macnaghten's memoranda because he was saying, in effect, hey, these guys were better suspects than Cutbush. But then since we believe Ostrog was in prison in France at the time of the murders he seems a poor choice for a "likelier" suspect and we are not sure what the evidence was against Druitt.

All the best

Chris

Dear C.G.

You said...."I am not quite sure of the logic of your explanation, though I assume AP will approve you putting Mr. Cutbush at the top of the totem pole."

No sir, what I meant was that without Cutbush,we would not have the MacNaghten Memoranda. One of the field's mid-20th Century pioneers,Daniel Farson, is most known for his revealing the MM to the rest of us.

Two of these three "suspects" ( none of whom of course appear in Scotland Yard or Home File folders...and with the eventual dismissal of Ostrog by Jon Ogan's research) are the most "popular" suspects in the Case.

Thats what I meant, old bean. I know that Maybrick and Sickert are modern favorites or at least "drawing cards" to the field, but Druitt and Kosminski have inspired as many people and for far longer.

Without Insp Race and his suspicions, we would not have Cutbush.

Exactly sir. In a sense Race is the most important Inspector in the Case, I'd think.
