The ultimate 5 questions -
How Brown
Tell it like it is.
How did you get so interested?
what is it that keeps you so interested?
How come your missus allows you to spend so much time on this?
Where do you see next year moving to?
Do you see a solution?

Admin Tim,
Same questions.
You are both doing a major job keeping the story alive, so tell us your stories please.

Dave:
The short and sweet...
Q:
1.How did you get so interested?
2.what is it that keeps you so interested?
3.How come your missus allows you to spend so much time on this?
4.Where do you see next year moving to?
5.Do you see a solution?
A:
1. It all began with seeing the photo of MJK and just accelerated.
2. Just about everything about it.
3. Nina encourages it. I am very fortunate.
4. I am optimistic about Ripperology's future. I believe we will continue to collectively discover new data and reevaluate old areas of the Case.
6. I doubt that we'll find a solution which all would agree upon and also that a solution has ever been provided which is iron clad.

Hi How,
I'm glad that you're optimistic. I hope that we can leave the last couple of months behind and boogie on.:grouphug:
Most of us just love what we're doing, finding bits, learning, sharing and chatting with like minded peep's. The odd argument is healthy, but getting personal is not on.
We need rational people like yourself to keep us on track.

Dave:
I wrote down my 5th answer too quickly. No big deal, but I re-wrote it.
I don't believe we will find a solution...and I don't think a solution which has been presented before and still under consideration will be shown to be correct. I'm more of an eliminationist,Dave...someone who thinks everyone from Druitt to LeGrand is a "good read" or "nice story", but inevitably just a well researched person with the "script" designed to fit any of them into the role of the Ripper.
Sugden stated...and I should have read what he said on Day One...that Ripperologists tend to take a suspect and mold the information around said person to make him fit. Its not always so, but generally, Mr. Sugden was correct for the most part.

How did you get so interested?
what is it that keeps you so interested?
How come your missus allows you to spend so much time on this?
Where do you see next year moving to?
Do you see a solution?
1. How did you get so interested?
This episode of Thriller, 1961's Yours Truly Jack the Ripper, was my introduction to Jack the Ripper. Little did I realize that this casual hour of exposure 49 years ago would snowball across the decades to become a consuming passion, and for that I suppose I am forever indebted to Thriller.
2. What is it that keeps you so interested?
I'm an engineer, and engineers are problem-solvers. The more one digs into this case, the more questions one has, and I'm also a history and historical crime buff. That, plus ripperology is often like watching a slow-motion train wreck. Horrifying, but nonetheless fascinating.
3. How come your missus allows you to spend so much time on this?
I don't spend near so much time anymore as I used to, in the days when she referred to herself as a ripper widow. Chocolate also helps.
4. Where do you see next year moving to?
Not any different from the preceding 10 or 20. Ripperology moves at a glacial pace, if not actually in geologic time. We really know no more about Jack the Ripper today than anyone did in 1900. Pretty sad, eh?
5. Do you see a solution?
I see lots of 'em every year. Problem is, none are worth the paper on which they're written. I'm sure that Patricia Cornwell was shocked, shocked, to learn that her 'solution' was not unquestioningly accepted by the ripperological community. Just as numerous others (many of whom should have known better) were shocked to discover that their theories and solutions on Silver, LeGrand, D'Onston, Pearson, Maybrick, and a host of other suspects were also not accepted.
If you mean 'do I see a REAL solution?' then I would have to say no, barring any miraculous revelation such as found here:

Failing that, any other solution proposed by anyone will likely fail as have all others previously, no matter how slick it sounds or appears.

Hi How,
Short, sharp and to the point - well done. It's refreshing to read a realist - that's why most of us persevere. It's the thrill of the chase, not the kill.
More people like yourself and our contributors are needed to keep the hobby rational.
By the way, are the lines down to Tim land? No reply yet. :bolt: [Edit] Sorry Tim, misread the header
What a scoop , both gaffers - a double 5Q on one night, wot a result!
