1. How many victims do you believe...at this time, subject to change...were attributable to the Ripper?
In my opinion I believe there were 6 possibly seven victims, the canonical five plus Martha tabram and possibly Emma Smith.
2. Which areas of the site do you enjoy the most and is there something you would suggest the Forums improve on ( Besides the quality of its..cough...administrator) ?
I enjoy the suspects and theories forum, and also the motives and reasons forum. The Ripper media forum is also useful for finding out what books, dvd's etc are currently popular. Regarding improvements, I honestly think that you are doing a great job Howard, and cant think of anything thats needing improved.
3. What is your impression of the documentary, Case Closed, featuring Mrs. Cornwell ?
Overall I think that the documentary isnt bad, although Ms Cornwell appears to alter the facts to suit her theory. Isnt Walter Sickert meant to have been resident in France during the c5 murders? An interesting documentary which ripperologists should see if only for completeness. My only fear is that anyone new to the subject could come away believing that Ms Cornwell has indeed solved the mystery and I dont think that is a good thing for ripperology.
4. What area or aspect of the WM do you wish was focused on in a documentary?
Too few documentaries focus on the true level of social deprivation that existed in the East end of London in the latter part of the 19th century which obviously contributed greatly to the WM. People still believe that the women who prostituted themselves during this time actually chose to do so! Whereas in truth they either sold their bodies or literally starved to death! So that is just one area that I would like to see focused on. Also I would like to see depicted, the facts on just how basic the detection methods were at this period in time. Too often the police (Met and City) are depicted as "not doing enough" to solve the murders when in fact they were doing the best that they could with the methods at their disposal at that period in time.
5. What has been your impression of the Rippercast radio/podcasts so far ? Is there someone you would like to see JMenges corral and have appear on the show who hasn't already ?
I think that the Rippercasts are an excellent medium for communicating to ripperologists with, after all it is through listening to them that led me to these forums! As to people I would like to appear on the show, Metropolitan Police Commander John Grieve, Donald Rumbleow, Richard Jones, Shirley Harrison and also Ivor Edwards who I think would have an interesting debate with you Howard.
