This si very interesting, how. You know, it's often strange how often we take certain things for granted in terms of our history. I, like most people her in England firmly believed that we here in England, and in London in particular were in the forefront of organised policing in the United Kingdom. It was only when I was researching certain facts for 'A Study in Red' that I discovered that our 'heathen' neighbours north of the border in Bonnie Scotland were actuallt far ahead of us in that respect and that the City of Edinburgh Police Force came into being over a quater of a centruy before the formation of the Metropolitan Police in London. At the time of the Whitechapel murders, Scotland Yard and the Met was still in its infancy by comparison with the Scots.
Och aye, hots mon, it's a braw, bricht, moonlit nicht, the nicht!
(Translation, "Bloody hell, man, it's f***ing freezing out there tonight")
