I've been asking folks for the source of the claim behind the sentiment that Tumblety was actually arrested for anything relative to the WM for two weeks or so...
Two references...without any police corroboration...exist.
One being the New York Times ( November 19,1888 ) article and the other, the New York World ( November 27,1888 ) newspaper article. It was from within this latter newspaper article that the date of the alleged arrest occurred. Where,what for,and by whom are unmentioned. No mention of a specific policeman...no mention of a location...no mention of the reason.
Littlechild does not mention any arrest made in the Littlechild Letter.
If he was arrested, we still do not know the circumstances other than his claim in January of 1889 that it was due to his wearing a "wideawake" hat.
My next question is how anyone can take the claim made by Tumblety being arrested by the police for WM related issues anymore seriously than the claims made by D'Onston that he was arrested.
