Here is an extract from a recent exchange that I had with Rip editor Eduardo Zinna:

'Cyberjack', a feature I myself enjoyed, was discontinued because the person who wrote it didn't want to do it any more. If we could find someone who wanted to take over from where he left off we'd be delighted, I'm sure..

If you don't remember, because it HAS been awhile, 'Cyberjack' was a regular feature in the Rip that gave the reader a capsule summary of what all has been going on at the main ripper websites - items of feature interest, news, rumours, gossip, etc. and so forth. A lot like Howard posts in here every month, but without the awful captions.

SO, for honor and glory and 15 minutes of fame every month - who's interested? All interested applicants should contact the Rip editor of your choice, or just post in here and we'll see that they are so informed.

First of all, the individual or individuals would need to have a list of the various Ripper message boards, blogs, websites which are repositories for one person's views on the Case, peripheral yet integral sites to the study of the murders and the LVP, East End and Jack The Ripper...and other formats for the discussion or study of the Case. Bright Man didn't mention that...so I figured I would have to.

I know we're still treading water, Casebook is, the Thomas Schachner German site is...not sure about Franklin's Dutch site...the Maybrick site may be...the WS1888 site is still going...

Just to clarify, it wasnt a case of me not wanting to do it anymore, it was a down to the fact that my Daughter had just been discharged from hospital after almost succumbing to an illness which she/we still has to contain.

I simply didnt have the time to commit at that difficult moment in my life.

I know theres no need for me to explain however I need it to be clear that it wasnt just a mere case of me not wanting to do it anymore.

Many thanks How,

Its not an issue. I just felt the phrase used indicated I couldnt be bothered, which is incorrect. There were valid reasons as to why I didnt continue.

Monty:

Je vous prie de m'excuser pour ma faute. Mea culpa.

I owe you an explanation of what has gone on here. Watch for a PM on Friday.

Hello everybody,

My email to Tim from which he quoted an excerpt above was a personal, informal reply to his question whether the Cyberjack column was discontinued because of external pressure. All I wanted to do was to reassure him that the column was discontinued solely because of a decision by its author. Ripperologist does not pay much attention to outside pressure, complaints or any kind of interference when it knows it's on the right.

If I had thought that my email would be published, which it was not intended to be, I might have used a more felicitous phrasing and said, for instance, that the author of Cyberjack "was unable to continue doing it" instead of saying that he didn't want to. In fact, I was not aware of the reasons that moved Monty, whom I did not name in my email, not to continue doing Cyberjack. But it should be clear that I never implied that he had just up and gone. Indeed, Monty is a regular contributor to Ripperologist whose work has appeared in recent issues of the magazine and, what's even more important, a friend.

That said, I hope that this misunderstanding is now cleared. I'm convinced that all of us meant well and it is unfortunate that my choice of words may have given rise to some misgivings.

All the best,
Eduardo

Guys,

I can confirm that no one was party to why I ceased Cyberjack.

I apologise to you Tim if my posts on this thread were a tad touchy, its a sensitive subject (my daughters illness) and I hope you understand why I reacted so, rightly or wrongly. I didnt mean to imply you were being insensitive, my dealings with you have been nothing but pleasurable.
You have done nothing wrong Tim.

Its an honour for me to call Eduardo a friend. He is probably one of most reliable people I know in Ripperology and his integrity will never be questioned by me. As mentioned he, nor any of the Rip team, were aware of my reasons as to why I stopped. I should have handled this privately and regret not doing so.

Therefore I apologise humbly to those involved, not only for the way I handled this but also for any embarressment Ive caused.

I hope you both forgive my over reaction. It was uncalled for.

Regards

Monty
