Hi All,
In April 1857, five months before being charged in Montreal for attempting to procure an abortion for Philomene Dumas, a prostitute, Tumblety was in a Toronto court on charges of practicing medicine without a license.
This is from the New York Herald, 15th April 1857—
The Medical World, 1857, reported that at the court hearing Mullen said "On speaking to him [Tumblety], he said I was in a bad position in consequence of secret habits, which, he alleged, I was addicted to. After some conversation I admitted the fact."
Regards,
Simon
