JTR Forums.com will be sponsoring a quarter- annual contest for the "best" article within that particular three-month span.....
Since its so close to the Brighton Convention, we will wait until mid-October to start the competition.
But first....who will judge the "best" written article that you will submit ?
We will have to try to go out and get us a judge over the next month or so...Anyone who would wish to be that Judge, that arbiter and high rankin' decision maker, should e-mail El Presidente himself at donston1888@aol.com...
....and maybe we could use a little help with writing ideas. There are only about 20 or so writers here now,so that makes that part easy...
The prize will be either a subscription to Ripper Notes or Ripperologist for one year...all paid for by the overflowing coffers of JTRForums.com
We don't play favorites here,so all members can apply for the Judgeship.

In addition to earning the years subscription [ and we all know the shekel doesn't stretch like she used to...], perhaps your work will be seen by either editor of the two magazines....they'll be gobsmacked....and ask you for permission to use it in their magazines.
You can't lose for winning with a set up like that can ya ? ;)

I'm in!
So long as it isn't another one of those 1 or 2 person "competitions", anyway...
That's especially useful, actually, because both my subscription to "Ripperologist" and "Ripper Notes" is due for renewal, so I don't mind if my expenses get cut in half.... ;)
When do we get underway, How?
Cheers,
Adam.

Adam:
So far as I know, there is one more person interested.
It would be good to have more than just two.........
HINT.

Sorry I'll have to sit this one out, but as John Savage will tell you, we're engaged on an article that's coming up more like a book. :)

I don't mind who I beat.

P.S. Did I tell you that James Maybrick was Jack the Ripper?

Hi again all!
Well, it seems that not too many people are interested in having an expense paid for them....
Maybe once the theme is announced there will be a few more people interested...hopefully!
Peter, sorry to say this, but James Maybrick makes Lewis Carroll look like a good suspect - and that's not a good thing!!!
Cheers,
Adam. :)

The first article has been sent in to the Forums and it comes from one of our members.
I mention this,as anyone on this mortal coil, can enter.
Adam will be "allowed" to enter,as no one from this site will do the judging..just in case there was a question of hanky panky, should Adam win.

AND....the competition is over on November 9th,2005.

Hi all,
Ummm...Howie...did I miss something?
Just wondering, since I haven't seen the theme for the articles mentioned yet....or are we allowed to just write about any topic that is Ripper-related?
Once I know, I'll get started.... :)
Cheers,
Adam. :)

Adam...
No sir...There is no theme. Whatever you or someone else writes is their property [ and always will be of course...].
One suggestion I would like to add on here is perhaps it might be worthwhile to ask Mr. Begg or Mr. Norder for their opinions. Or,even the WS1888. Ask for Mr. Morris.
They, after all, may ask for these submissions and put them in their magazines.
Ripperologist is typically more diverse in its content, while Ripper Notes, after the first 5 issues, has been thematic.
And again...I'll collect all the articles and send them off to a very objective reviewer. That person will be the determining party. Your articles will NOT be posted here without your permission for the fact that one or even some of the submissions may be in demand by the aforementioned magazines.

Howie,
Thanks for the answer and the advice. I've got a fair idea on what I will most likely do my article on, but I just want to ask one more question first: Is it OK to include photos with your article, or can't they be used?
I'll get started soon!
Cheers,
Adam. :)

Of course Adam. Photos are a good idea.
Because it may assist Messrs. Begg or Norder if they wished to place that story in their magazines. Anything to make their lives easier. ;)

Howie,
OK, thanks for that, that's what I was thinking as well.
I'll get started! It's not going to be the longest of articles, but hopefully will create that "Hmm, interesting!" effect on the reader. I guess we'll soon find out!
Cheers,
Adam. :)

I'll submit something for the compo... always fancied myself as a writer.
But I'll tell you right now, no magazine will publish it.
Robert, you're getting engaged!? Congratulations my dear fellow.
Funny name for a girl though, John Savage.
You sure this is kosher?

AP, I'm ashamed to confess that it's a menage a trois, David O'Flaherty being the third party.

Just a reminder that the November 9th deadline is only two weeks away...
Good luck to one and all in their articles....
I have a very qualified mystery judge, one whom has written for Ripperoo..Ripperana..Ripperologist, and Ripper Notes. He or she will probably write for the WS1888 one day.
Again,good luck

Howster,
Now I'm back again, I'll have my article sent in to you A.S.A.P. It shouldn't take too long to complete, since it's not meant to be overly long. Watch out for it within the next few days!
Cheers,
Adam. :)

Dear Super Moderatin' Man....
Not only you,but all folks are reminded that in 8 days, the vaults will be sealed and you shall be locked out forevermore from this competition...
Sharpen thy pencils....November 9th is around the corner.....
Good luck to all....

Howie,
Gotcha, no problems. It won't take me long at all once I get right into the article. I could write a better article doing the whole thing in about 2 days, rather than do little bits here and there over a matter of weeks. So....watch out for it, How! :D
Cheers,
Adam.

Folks....

At that time,Tim Mosley turns back into a barefoot chargirl with a pumpkin coach....and the Forums Competition will be over.
Just a reminder.

Well, I hope that I was the third entry, and not one of only two people!! Somehow, that scenario sounds strangely familiar.... ;)
How did all of that end up going anyway, Howster? Can this mystery judge be revealed yet? (If it's Don Souden, Glenn Andersson or Monty, I'll kiss my chances goodbye right now....)
Cheers,
Adam. :D
