I was actually looking for stuff by Mabel Collins and found a few examples where she had written to the Pall Mall Gazette, discussing such things as cruelty to animals, all of which pre-dated this article. It would appear as though she was a regular contributor and reader.

Mike...a great find and one that I find hard understanding how it was out of view all these many years until you brought it up. Not to sound like a smartass, but I'll bet that this issue is in the possession of one or two of us in the field and they simply didn't notice it. Finds like this are doubly great to me since they prove that there is still material in our possession somewhere that we just don't know we have, along with the materials that have yet to be found or placed in the community's possession. Its typical Covell work.

Collins wrote this article for the PMG around the time that RDS left the hospital...just 18 days after he left the LH in fact.

I have found other articles in the American press from that period in time, which discuss her anti-vivisectionist views as well as articles such as her fashion column, which was not for the PMG. That work was found in the World.

One quick comment Mike before I forget....since you made me think of lesbians just now.

This may have crossed your mind before, but when we look at Collins' career as a journalist and author and her social friends...not one mention or hint of her being a lesbian or involved with any other woman romantically, surfaces. This is why I disbelieve the reference made towards her that she was a lesbian. Of all people to be intimate with she is alleged to have been with was a less than attractive one in Cremers and Colllins was a pretty attractive lady. I sincerely doubt this is what went down and hope that you remember to note this in your work on RDS. There simply is no proof she was a lesbian.
