Hi John
Some great stuff. I still havent had time to look at the tour, But I must confess I haven't realized that Dorsett street/Millers Court was where philip claimed..
(And bizarrely the psychic medium I worked with some years ago, was actually correct and I was wrong? go figure.)
But I think creating a thread with Video output a great idea. Shall I create a seperate one for the Video DVD or are you happy for me to share your Thread?
I have some screen grabs to send Howard and running times on Paul Begg, Philip Hutchinson, Richard Jones, and Mei Trow. I'm currently burning Chris George who will take 2hrs at 44' 47''. So that only leaves Stuart Orme and the Tour.
I'd like to get things started. Clearly there is a discussion to how long everyone wishes the DVD to run. The full version, including Colins introduction and questions will run between 8 and 9 hours.
So that is probably a three box set?
Anyway I'm off for a run while I leave Chris George cooking..
Yours Jeff
Big Jon

Share away Jeff!
Personally I'm all for the full 9 hours!

Ah then you broach another problem.
How would you like me to present RIPPERLANDS?
Jeff
PS Only another 30 minutes cooking to go and I can push on with Stuart Orme.
At present I am keeping everything. Just losing the odd slip and pause. I'm not talking about cutting the lectures, that would be wrong, but we could lose some of the opening banter and end questions? Thanks for the welcome John, I will send Howard the screen grabs this afternoon.
Chris G.
11-04-2009, 09:47 AM
Hi Jeff
The opening banter might not be needed. Whether to keep the questions or not might depend on how well the questions are heard and understood on the video. Some though might say to keep everything as it preserves the sense of the occasion, so use your own judgement.
Chris

I think the opening banter was definetly a part of the occasion and should be kept in.
Where else would you hear Colin Cobb welcoming everyone to the BNP annual conference!

Hi Jon
Actually I thought Jeff was referring to each speaker's opening banter rather than Colin's overall introduction and warm-up act, rah rah. There may be a bit of "set up" that could be cut if boring but if the remarks add to the occasion maybe they should be preserved.

As i said, I'll leave everything in for now. A consensus can be reached later. However there will also be a cost factor that needs considering. DVDs do not play that well with over three hours of material, so we are looking at 3 or 4 DVDs each requiring case, a label, and a cover. Guess it depends on quantity?
Anyway Chriss lecture completed, I better push on. I will get stuff to Howard.

Ok Having chopped it about a little, but leaving Colin Cobb and questions pretty much in-tacked apart from one red herring question, Conference DVD comes out as:
1. Stuart Orme 51’ 02’’
2. Chris George 44’ 47’’
3. Mei Trow 59’ 21’’
4. Chis George 44’ 47’’
5. Paul Begg 50’ 38’’ (But I believe he was talking slowly for the American market)
6. Richard Jones 46’ 23’’
Which means we have 5 hours and 3 minute so far. That’s without the links and of course the Sunday Jack the Ripper tour and Ripperlands should Jon Bennet wish it included and copy right problems allowing. So you are going to be watching this all Xmas! By the looks of it…:ranger:
I may be able to cut Stuart a little if Adam ever sends the TIFFS I require?
Jeff
Did grabs arrive Howard?
PS having tech difficulties with tape one of tour Jon, there is a video glitch?. I'm rerecording in different format. Please send an address if you want footage in full as discussed.

Jeff, DVD arrived today. You did a fine job - thank you!
Is anyone here an expert on body language? I spend half my lecture with a finger either on my temple, eyebrow or end of my nose. What does it all mean?
And John, you once said I didn't have a voice that leant itself to impersonation. Having heard my voice on here, I disagree. In fact, I think I could do a pretty good impersonation of myself.

I was being flustered, I have a technical problem with tape one of the walk. Might be a faulty tape? which is rare but cant shift it.
Philips lecture is 54' 43''
Pleased you liked it. Let me know if you wish anything cut, dropped or blurred out. I must confess I'm rather pleased. It should look even better with the pictures you provided. I left your lecture wider than some of the others as there is lots of interesting things going on with your light pointer. (Paul demanded the big soft focus close-ups)
Anyway back to the tour. Obviously I did know the quote was from Mei Trow, I know all the lectures off by heart now.
Jeff
PS I have just got rid of the tape glitch so do not worry John you footage is safe.

You will all be pleased to know that I have an inexhaustible supply for these pictures but I will spare you all for now.
Actually I’m sure the pictures you are all keen to see are the ones I’m currently working on, ie Philips tour.
Especially the large stash of Rob Clacks bottom and of course the final location of Castle Ally, which was mega atmospheric.
Of course I will be posting my favorite location, Berner Street! And Philip’s inspired reconstruction....tomorrow.
Can I quickly thank, Laura and John Bennett. Their work was truly excellent. It's only today having watched the footage that I appreciated the hard work they put in.
Many thanks guys, Jeff x
PS I had 'You are the Quarry' on in the bath last night, I bet Morrissey feels a little foolish about the lyrics to 'America is not the world' given the recent election?

Hi Jeff. I think you mean Swallow Gardens (Castle Alley is the site of the McKenzie murder and we went there early on... or some of us did and others assumed we were going to Goulston Street and carried on walking along Wentworth Street instead of turning left). Remember the tour continued after you left - we still had several other sites to visit after the cameras departed, namely the site of Eddowes' arrest, St Botolph's Church and Mitre Square.

Just to confirm to those who have been very kind and diligent in informing me that there is a photo of Dutfield's Yard online, Jeff did ask me in advance and I am absolutely fine with this. I'm only trying to stop it getting nicked and used elsewhere out of context and without credit (as has happened to myself and others) and the way it is presented here, you can't possibly do anything with it.
As this smashing reconstruction has gone up (and, people who were there, how interesting was it to see what the arrangement of us looked like in the middle of the road to reconstruct the original?), I shall say now that the last picture in the next book (THE JACK THE RIPPER LOCATION PHOTOGRAPHS : DUTFIELD'S YARD AND THE WHITBY COLLECTION) will be Gareth's photo of us in this pose, in colour. Hoping that no one has issues with that! No one is named.
The book, by the way, has now had the proofs approved and - as soon as the lazy bastards show me the cover - it should be going to print. Only a month after it was promised, and far too late for RipCon 2009.

Hi Currer,
Thanks. Those boots are soooo comfy.
Yep that's me. You know what they say, red hat no drawers.
It's FLESH. And I'm certain one lump of it is Pete Sugarman and the other is Rob Hills.
Another mystery solved.

Looks like you folks had a grand time. Makes me even sadder I missed it. I was in Memphis trudging around a Victorian Era graveyard (which was quite cool) but it would have been more fun to be with you lot. Much more than a year without visiting London and I start to go into withdrawal. I'm sure there's a 12-Step program for that, but I enjoy the addiction too much to quit.

We've had one member who Mr. Trow knows very well suggest he appear on the boards. Maybe a phone call would do the trick.
Just ask him if he would like to discuss the book further here and that I was given an advance copy by his American distributor to read and would like some dialogue on his effort.
Thanks Jeff.

Hi Guys
So the guy next to Lindsay, with the beard when seen from the other angle, is Mark Ripper? and guy with the light grey trousers next to him and Jacky Murphy is Peter ‘WARSPITE’ Whitby?
This is more difficult than the original.
http://www.facebook.com/people/Lindsay-Siviter/764335485
Google search comes up with Lindsay being a boy. Do you think she knows?
Thanks for your help guys. Its coming together slowly
Jeff
PS Don’t confuse things Monty, there is another head in the background but I’ve let it slip as in the video it only appears briefly.

Hi Philip,
It's a similar thing with actress Leslie Ash. She is the only female I know with the male ending -ie, instead of the female -ey, as in Lesley Dunlop.
I suppose it's bound to happen occasionally if not every parent is aware of these differences when naming their new arrival. But there's nothing male about our Lindsay. :)
