These forums are restricted because of the incivility that all too frequently accompanies any Maybrick discussion. There is a cadre of anti-diarists, and you know whom I mean, that makes it difficult to impossible to conduct a civilized and congenial correspondence on diary and watch matters in other venues.

We therefore decided to implement the concept of restricted forums, whereby all can read but posting is by permission only. And said permission is easy to obtain - merely petition Howard or Caroline (the forum moderator) by PM to join the discussion and permission will be granted (usually), the few exceptions being members of the aforementioned cadre.

Sir Bob can also take your requests if you wish, but the original agreement was that only Howard or Caroline would decide who would be allowed to participate. This has worked very well to this point, so I suppose that the same policy will be continued. I'm the one who does the actual enabling, and even I have submitted names to Howard and Caroline for approval.

It is restricted because of the long, sad history of the tone of discussion of the Diary and Watch on the Casebook. We wanted to avoid going down that road.

By no means does it imply that Caz and I (the Maybrick über mods) want to avoid two sided debate. There is something about Maybrick threads that gets people to post things they'd never say face to face, and we want to avoid mud-slinging.

For the record, I think I am the only Maybrickian on the Forums.

If you want to join in the party, let Caz or I know.
