You mention Ripperana...Did they close shop a few years ago? Written N Red is the name of the Robin O'Dell lecture collection put out by Frogg Moody. I have it but haven't read it yet. Is it any good? I liked Hainsworth's Kosminski piece, although it was a bit confusing.Yours truly, Tom Wescott

Tom:
I think its still being sent out to some people. Warren never responded to several emails I sent inquiring about the magazine. If one of those "fortunates" that do get the magazine would let me know whats in it, I'll put the contents on the thread.
I liked Mr. Odell's latest book. If I get a chance I'll bring up some points he made...I had a few written down somewhere for that purpose.

Tom...while you're here on this thread:
What did you think of the q and a with Bruce Paley on his "Simple Truth" and Adrian Morris' review of it ?

Hi Howard, that's interesting about Ripperana. I haven't read WSJ since 2007, so I don't know. I guess I'll need to read the O'Dell lectures. I've never been impressed with him to be honest, but his 1965 book was a big influence to Stewart and others (probably Zodiac too!), so I'll give him that. But I haven't yet seen him say anything worthwhile about the case. Yours truly, Tom Wescott

So what's going on with Ripper Notes and Ripperoo then?
Must have missed more than I thought while I was on my hiatus....
Cheers,
Adam.

AW:
Ripper Notes ceased to be a publication almost 1 1/2 years ago and Ripperoo for far longer. Ripperana seems to be sent only to a few...while the WS1888 Journal is bimonthly and Ripperologist is a monthly publication.

Tom:
Back to what you mentioned about Mr. Odell....I think he's got a pretty solid command of Case facts. He's a well read man, knows a lot of East End history and is a real gentleman. He's the only person I can ever remember that made me stutter. I tried to get an idea across over a beer with the man and sounded like Jerry Lewis in the Delicate Delinquent. He realized I was babblin' and finished my line off.
I would counter any argument that he hasn't said anything worthwhile in regard to the WM by saying that he has been very deliberate in his presentations and while presenting the argument that a shochet may likely have been the Ripper, he hasn't pursued that argument in the way some theorist-Ripperologists pursue their favorite suspects.
Adam Went

How:
That's a shame. A while back I was a subscriber to Ripper Notes and found that it was very well designed and carried some excellent articles. As for Ripperana....I've heard that the issues that do come out these days are generally littered with fillers and non-Ripper material, but I do hope that as the first magazine of its kind on the case and the one who set the benchmark, it can return to its former self.
Still, Ripperologist is the leader in its field now and rightly so. Great magazine.
Cheers,
Adam.
