Hello all,
Can anybody please tell me the origin of the statements (in the A-Z and the Sourcebook) that Assistant Commissioner Alexander Carmichael Bruce attended the murder scenes at Buck's Row and Hanbury Street?
I have been searching all over the place.-. and can find no original reference.
many thanks
Phil

The Times, on September 14th,1888 reported that Bruce, along with Colonel Monsell, Chief Constable, Metropolitan Police paid a private visit to the two sites.

Howard,
Many thanks, this is the only reference to it? Was there any sort of other comments as to with whom and for what purpose?
I have searched every book that I have and many older ones.. incl Griffiths, Browne, Wilson, ODell, Farson, McCormick, Rumbelow.. either I have completely missed this, or that newspaper report is the ONLY reference.
best wishes
Phil

Let me know if your copy of the Ultimate covers that article. I have the latest edition ( 2009). The original edition disintegrated three months ago on me due to usage.
It mentions that Bruce and Monsell went unannounced and made many inquiries at Bucks Row & Hanbury Street and investigated the yard where Chapman was found. Its on page 99 of my edition in the 5th Chapter.
Hope that helps.

As far as I can tell, as its not mentioned whether anything new was added to it, it appears the same with nothing new added...but in my case the pages don't fall out all over the place.
