The letter by Justica correctly points out that arsenic was only found in James' liver, not his stomach, which does raise questions about administration.

Hi ho SirBob

...... or at least the time of administration. The liver being a more integrated representation of intake and the stomach (as arsenic in the stomach could only have been in the contents, not the tissue) only providing an indicator of what was in the contents.

If he hadnt eaten in a day or two there would be no reason to expect anything in his stomach. If he had eaten and there was no arsenic there is no reason to think there was arsenic in the thing he ate last.

But arsenic being a cumulative posion in some respects, I would be careful in drawing any conclusions as to fatal doses based on the contents of his stomach. Or lack thereof.

If I remember rightly, didn't Maybrick's mother have an unusual death certificate, in that two causes of death were given?

I believe one of them was 'hepatic' but I can't recall the other.

Love,

You're right about the two causes, and if I recall correctly as a result some have speculated that his mom met an untimely death when she objected to Sir Jim marrying Flo. I also am drawing a blank on the other cause of death.

Mabel Collins, aka Mabel Cook, Aka Mabel Cooke, also sent a letter to the press with regards to the Maybrick case, if I remember rightly it appeared in the Pall Mall Gazette at some point.
