If anyone has knowledge of a newspaper source which has not already been scoured for stories, directly related to or peripherally referencing the Case here or on any another site....please contact me a.s.a.p. because I will subscribe to those sources usng the generous funds that members have sent in towards JTRForums...plus Nina's and my own cash....mostly her own cash.
We have the London Times,Manchester Times,Glasgow papers,etc.. ...and the Free Library of Philadelphia, which has undergone recent budget cuts preventing us from bringing up many American newspaper stories we once had access to. We also have the Godfrey Library ( from whence we obtained the Times papers) and another link to the British papers...but do not have The Star, Daily Telegraph, and several other London papers.
Casebook's press section does have most of the London Papers.
I'm hoping that we can access newspapers of the day here online via subscription and if you can help me out, I would appreciate that immensely.
Even foreign language newspapers would be most welcome.
Thank you

Dear Sir Howard,
It has recently come to my attention, that a great number of online sources exist for free, and as pay per view articles, via Google.
One only has to enter "Jack the Ripper" and/or a related search, and one will be directed to a number of search results. At the top of the page select "NEWS", this will bring up a results page with the latest news results. At the moment these pages are filled with the recent news and reviews of Sherlock vs Jack, however, on the left hand side there is a tab to select "ARCHIVES"
When one hit's the button, they can select a decade, year etc, and search away. I found some fascinating material recently on Frederick Bailey Deeming, Mabel Collins, and numerous other suspects. Most of the articles are free, some can be saved, printed, and even have text files.
Or follow this quick link,
http://news.google.co.uk/archivesearch
Happy viewing.

I am currently focused on the first week of December 1901. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are my targets.
Please let me know if you come across a newspaper from those two cities that covers the early December 1901 period. Thanks!
Joe

Fortunately, I was able to find the Inner Ocean, a newspaper that I neglected to dissect last year and had thought was inaccesible due to local library cutbacks in Philadelphia.
This Spring...at gunpoint, JTSickert, Nina, and myself will be heading down to the FL of P to extract Philadelphia Bulletin stories.
If anyone is a college student here on the boards and has access to ProQuest as a result, please contact me.
Thank you.

How:
Feel free to post up my Australian press reports from Ripperologist (December 2005) if you think they'd be of any use.... it's been more than 4 years since they were published, so I think it's safe. ;)
There was several more than that but the original transcripts are on my old computer unfortunately....
Cheers,
Adam.

AW:
Thanks pardner.
What I'm looking for are newspapers ( St. Louis Republican) from America or the U.K. ( No one has tackled the Manchester Times to any great length yet...and I have access to that one) which have yet to be fully examined.
I was lucky and got the Inner Ocean from Chicago today.
Hi How,
A large number of articles on the murders appeared in Australian papers (mostly syndicated articles) - these are freely available from the National Library of Australia. The link below will take you to the search page:
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home
Throw in Whitechapel.
The results can then be sorted by decade or year - clicking on the links for each article will bring up an image of the page and an OCR transcript.
Hope this helps,
Graham

Graham, I salute you sir. Being something of a Frederick Bailey Deeming nut, I checked the site you added and wow! There are records of Deemings bancrupcy cases all online from 1887 to 1888!

Howard, I have just spent the last hour or so pouring over the papers reporting the trial, outcome, and antecedents of the Deeming affair! It's a wonderful source of information, and great because it's from Australia, where Deeming was at the time, rather than relying on a source of information from England, which was getting it's info from Australia anyway!
Now, Where is Lional Druitt!

Here's one from a Melbourne paper which hasn't been covered to any extent:
Notice it repeats the claim of 4 victims in a month...prior to the Double Event.
