Inspired by Cris Malone..an idea I had wanted to mention a few years ago,but was a little timid and therefore didn't.
Lets suppose, my fellow Forumites, that one man had been arrested, tried, and convicted of one murder (Lets use the Mary Kelly murder for the time being) in late 1888...but was assumed to be the murderer of Tabram through the Double Event at the time of his arrest, during his trial, at his sentencing, as he awaited execution, and after his execution in early 1889.
His legal team tried their best to get him off the hook by pleading insanity, but to no avail.
Lets call him Joe Bloggs, a seaman of English ancestry.
Over the next century up until the establishment of the Internet and Message Board Ripperology....research was undertaken by various authors and researchers, limited to communicating only by means of phone, letter, or rendezvous, to not only connect Mr. Bloggs to all of the 1888 murders but also to remove the contemporaneously established stain of Bloggs being the murderer of all the women who were murdered by knife in 1888...those who are considered canonical victims including Tabram.
Would you, as a Ripperologist, be one of those who would try to link Joe Bloggs to all those murders that the consensus felt, but could not prove, he was guilty of ?
Or would you attempt to clear him of any other charge other than the one he was sentenced and executed for ?
