....I'll give you fearless. Take a look at the photo below (a famous one from 1932) and decide if such men would have been deterred by the incredible risks undertaken by the Ripper in Hanbury Street and Mitre Square.
Seriously, maybe a new line of inquiry should be opened up along these lines, emphasizing suspects whose daily bread was won under hair-raising working conditions.

Tim's photo of New York skyscraper workers is a testament to the working folks who worked constantly in the face of death.
Like these men, East Enders, male and female alike, worked in terrible conditions for terrible wages,etc....
Could the effects of the Industrial Revolution, born in England, have developed a suspect...nameless for the moment....through years of the concomitant decimation of familial structure...dietary deprivations...social "class" inequities...loss of purpose...to the point that a "regular Joe" took his revenge on Life out on his fellow man in the Whitechapel Murders ?
We tend to look for motives and suspects that mention ritual patterns...royal conspiracies...crazy natives...whacky doctors....misogynistic artists...jealous gay suspects....disgraced schoolmasters...jealous lovers....even psychopaths who whack strangers to get someone removed from their sisters home...
How about a serial killer motivated by his experiences and no program other than a rancor for life around him? Its just this motive that inspired Carl Panzram to commit multiple murders around the same time, although on a separate continent.
