Headstone for Ripper-hunt officer
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...et/6269434.stm A Scotland Yard detective who led the police hunt for Jack the Ripper is to have his grave marked with a headstone 78 years after his death. . . ". . . Mr Abberline always believed the Ripper could have been female." Where did they get that from? Are they confused with Conan Doyle?? As we reported in Ripperologist 80, there will be a memorial service for former Chief Inspector Fred Abberline and his wife on 6 July at the graveside in Wimborne Road Cemetery, Bournemouth. Chris

Nice to see a headstone. Of course, the modern practice is to have a photo of the departed on the stone. I wonder if we'll ever see that?

I didn't know they did that in Latin countries, to tell you the truth, Chris.
Remind me not to die in one of those - 'twould scare the mourners away.

This just in from Michael Stead of Bournemouth Council who has been coordinating the effort to erect the headstone for Abberline in Wimborne Road Cemetery:
"Just a reminder that the Mayor will be arriving at 12.55 on Friday. Protocol requires all other guests to arrive earlier, so if you can be at the grave by 12.45 - 12.50 that would be really useful." Chris
