VICTIM 1 (Edward Andrassy) CRIME SCENE: Jackass Hill, Kingsbury Run (September 23rd, 1936) - Body was found nude - Absence of blood around area shows signs of being killed elsewhere - Was rather “dumped” than explicitly placed - Head was found buried in the ground, roughly about 20 feet away from victim 2, just the hair showing above the ground Autopsy - mysterious small pock-mark like scar on forehead, appendectomy scar on abdomen, and no abnormalities in the thorax of abdominal cavities, remains of vegetable meal in the stomach - Heart was found “bloodless” - Head was severed from the body in mid-cervical region with resulting fracture of the vertebrae. - Rope marks visible around wrists, possibly suggesting Andrassy had been tied up - Skin edges were clean cut, indicating knife had been wielded with strength and assurance - Death resulted from decapitation and shock VICTIM 2 CRIME SCENE: Jackass Hill, Kingsbury Run (September 23rd, 1936) - Found later in the day, about 30 feet away from Andrassy’s body - Body was in a rate of decomposition, therefore must have been dead longer (10-30 days) - Body showed evidence of a particular substance poured over it, turned the skin reddish, tough and leathery - Head is located about 70 feet away from the body - Severed genitals of both men found together close to one of the corpses (Which corpse is exactly unknown at this time) Autopsy - Decapitation occurred also in mid-cervical region - Edges of skin were clean cut - Left testicle is absent - Substance poured over body most likely acid, or some form of. This was later re-tested by W.H. Lay, Chief of Laboratories, and the tests suggested the body was burned with the car-engine oil, and therefore the burning was only sufficient to scorch, therefore producing the condition of the skin when found CRIME SCENE: Jackass Hill, various - Blue coat (label from B.R. Baker Company) - White shirt, White trousers, light checkered cap - Some clothing seemed to fit the second victim, and was blood-soaked, leading authorities to believe that he had been dressed while killed, the clothes stripped, and body cleaned after - Several pieces of rope - Railroad Torch - Two-Gallon water bucket, containing an oil-like substance (Turned out to be car engine oil laced with partially decayed blood and a large quantity of long black hair, later tested to be that of a human) Victim 3 (Flo Polillo) CRIME SCENE: Behind Hart Manufacturing (January 16th, 1936) - Lower half of female torso, two thighs, right arm - Cinders & coal dust embedded into the skin - Lower section of torso shows sign of indentations of lump coal - Every piece of Polillo’s body had been wrapped in newspapers - Baskets had been covered with two burlap sacks - Two piece set of cheap white cotton underwear found wrapped in newspaper nearby - Small tag bearing the name “William Danches’s Poultry Store” on East 105th CRIME SCENE: East 18th; Exact location unknown (January 26th, 1936) - Third Burlap bag is found, blood-stained, and with chicken feathers adhering to it CRIME SCENE: 1419 Orange Avenue (February 7th, 1936) - Upper half of torso is found - Surface around found with masses of charcoal, chicken feathers, and hay - About roughly 6 feet away, next to a fence, both lower legs and left arm are found “dumped” in heap - Could have been discarded about on January 26th CRIME SCENE: Vacant lot, East 65th St. (January 17th, 1938) - Woman’s winter coat and hat were found along with other articles of clothing. Possibly that of the victim Autopsy - Torso was bisected at second lumbar vertebra - Longitudinal incision ran length of lower half - Thighs (Were listed as Obese) were severed at the hip; - Close to the torso; the right arm (Showed signs of rigor mortis) had been removed at the shoulder joint - Sometime before death, the entire reproductive system had been removed along with half of the appendix - Death had occurred atleast 2-4 days before body was discovered - In his report, County Pathologist Dr. Reuben Straus states that all the cut surfaces had clean edges, County Coroner Arthur Pierce argued, saying the cuts were “Crude” Victim 4 (The Tattoo Man) CRIME SCENE: Kingsbury Run (June 5th, 1936) - Head was found rolled up in tweed trousers, possibly from victim - Stuffed into one of the “legs” of the trousers was a bloody-white polo shirt, ripped at the shoulders. Bore the label “Park Royal Broadcloth” Also found were a similarly bloodied dress shirt with brown stripes and the label “Desmonds”. Pair of blue striped men’s shorts and a size 32 black leather belt trimmed in a white mans handkerchief - About 20 feet away from the head, lay a pair of size 7 ½ badly worn oxfords. Laces were tied together, stuffed with pair of dark striped socks and orange tops. - 30 feet away, to the Northeast, police later found a dirty, oily brown cap - no body was found in the approximate area Autopsy - Head showed signs of some hesitation cuts - Died approximately 48 hours before discovery - Head was severed under the chin, at the axis CRIME SCENE: Kingsbury Run (June 6th, 1936) - Found naked, and headless, on its side, covered with twigs - Located about 1000 feet away from where the head was discovered - Pools of blood are noticed in the area, suggesting the location was the murder sight - Not emasculated Autopsy - Blood alcohol level of .03 % - Small amount of undigested food found in stomach, consisting of baked beans - Death resulted by decapitation and shock Victim 5 CRIME SCENE: West 98th gully (July 22nd, 1936) - body found headless, naked - Advanced state of decomposition - Head found 10-18 feet away, laying upon partially hidden clothes from the victim - Clothes consisted of (Some stained with blood) single-breasted, dark gray suit (Arms of coat were inside out, slash in right sleeve) dark brown leather belt with a plain nickel buckle, well-worn size 8 black oxfords, light blue polo shirt, light blue socks, black cap with gray stripes, and white underwear - Man had been killed where he laid - Had been roughly dead for two months, placing death around May of 36’. Autopsy - Head was severed from the body between the third and fourth cervical vertebrae - Showed signs of smooth, with no knife marks at points of separation - Cause of death was uncertain, but possibly attributed to decapitation Victim 6 CRIME SCENE: Stagnant Pool, East 37th, Kingsbury Run (September 10th, 1936) - Two halves of white male torso found swirling in the water - Small bits of human flesh found adhering to a ledge, apparently where the killer threw the pieces over the ledge and into the pool - Been dead for no more than 3-4 days - Lower half of both legs found later - Blue denim work shirt found along with, grey felt hat with small black band and a 12x16 inch piece of faded green underwear bearing the laundry mark “J.W.” on the waistband - Shirt had been found wrapped in newspaper, along the bank of the waterway at the point where authorities surmised that the body had been dumped - Hat was discovered 125 feet Northwest of the creek - Shirt bore blood marks and knife cuts at the neck, as well as a crude patch above the right front pocket and label stamped with “No.5” above the left - Underwear was spotted with blood - Hat possessed label that read “Loudy’s Smart Shop” - Left thigh was later found on September 12th, in the pool Autopsy - Head was severed from body with two powerful cuts, one from the front, the other from the back, between the 3rd and 4th Cervical vertebrae - Torso was bisected similarly, about two inches above the navel between the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae, slicing the stomach and both kidneys in the process - Had been emasculated, with about an inch of the man’s penis remaining - Few or no hesitation marks - Heart showed that the victim was alive when decapitated - Cuts at the shoulder showed signs without hesitation, and proper sight for amputation - Death attributed to decapitation and separation of body Victim 7 CRIME SCENE: Lake Erie (February 23rd, 1937) - Located offshore - Upper half of female torso - Had washed up on beach Autopsy - Torso bore several hesitation marks - Heart had already stopped beating by the time decapitation occurred - Died 2-4 days prior CRIME SCENE: Water off East 30th St (May 5th, 1937) - Lower half of female torso found Victim 8 (Rose Wallace) CRIME SCENE: Stone’s Levee (June 6th, 1937) - Skull found in the ground - Heavy white wool cap, turned gray, found along with a tassel, sleeve of a woman’s dress and a “toupee” of kinky black hair - As skull was unearthed, a dirty, greasy burlap bag, saturated with grayish-white powder was found, held close with rotted twine. Inside a human skeleton was found minus arms and legs, large piece of blackish-gray like material, and an undated advertisement and partial review from a newspaper - Sack had been dumped rather than buried Autopsy - No cause of death could be determined - definite knife marks an evidence of hacking and cutting visible on vertebrae - Grey mass in burlap sack as decomposed tissue - Powder substance in sack was tested, and came back as being lime Victim 9 CRIME SCENE: West 3rd St. Bridge (July 6th, 1937) - Lower half of male torso - Later, a floating burlap bag was found containing the upper half of the male torso - Later on, a right thigh was found lodged in a bridge piling - Left lower leg, and left upper arm showed up at various times throughout day - Upper half of torso had been wrapped around newspaper (3 weeks old) - Inside the bag, was a woman’s silk stocking, in good condition, this also included black and white dog hair, and several short human blonde hairs - Piece of lung was found on June 7th - Right arm turned up on June 10th - Right lower leg turned up on June 14th Autopsy - Genitals were found to be intact - Cross shaped blue scar on left leg - Lower half of torso was sliced open - Everything from the abdominal cavity was wrenched from the area - Chest was split, the heart removed - Clean incision across the base of the aorta - External lacerations visible on right hand and internal ones on the diaphragm - More hacking seen around neck, than noticed in previous torso cases - Multiple hesitation marks everywhere, some cut edges suggest raw edges suggesting the killers knife was getting dull - Death occurred atleast 48 hours before body was discovered - Cause of death undetermined Victim 10 CRIME SCENE: Superior Avenue (April 8th, 1938) - Lower half of human leg, amputated at the ankle - Six long blonde hairs are found sticking to the leg CRIME SCENE: West 3rd St. Bridge (May 2nd, 1938) - Human thigh found floating in the river - Burlap sack found by bridge, contained both halves of a headless torso, another thigh, and a left foot. All sufficiently decomposed - Later on, the mass of intestines as well as a piece of lung tissue would be found - Mass of hair found by man on May 8th while fishing Autopsy - Bore multiple hesitation marks - Lacerations on both thighs - Back ribs had been snapped with bare hands - Drugs were detected in system. Examination of tissue from the liver and lungs revealed presence of enough morphine to cause unconsciousness, even death - Dead longer than a month - Exact cause of death undetermined - Lack of blood in heart suggested “Probable laceration anterior aspect neck with secondary hemorrhage Victim 11 CRIME SCENE: East 9th & Lake Shore dump (August 16th, 1938) - Human bones discovered - Human torso wrapped in brown paper, wrapped then in a man’s torn, striped summer coat. A tattered homemade patchwork quilt was wrapped around this - Another package containing the thighs was also wrapped around brown paper, fastened by rubber bands - 5 feet away, a similar package lay, containing the head with matted, silky, light brown hair, about 6 inches long, still attached to the scalp. - Arms and lower legs found inside a brown, cardboard box fashioned from two different containers - Two burlap bags, label from the coat as well as a page from Colliers Magazine Autopsy - Heart disarticulated at the level of the third intervertebral disc, with knife marks on dorsum of the third vertebra - Extremities disarticulated at all the major joints, with knife marks on artificial surfaces Victim 12 CRIME SCENE: East 9th & Lake Shore dump (August 16th, 1938) - Human bones discovered - Large tin can held the head Autopsy - Head disarticulated at the level of the third inter-vertebral disc, with knife marks on dorsum of second and third cervical vertebrae - Extremities disarticulated at all major joints Best Wishes, Justin
