Hi All,
Thanks to Mike for putting up this document as it had occured to me that I had never seen it before and wa wondering if old sudden death was born Donston or D'Onston. We only seemed to have Harris word for it and such basics are alwaway worth checking. Good work Mike Rgds John |

It's no problem John,
One has to wonder what kind of research was actually carried out in Hull for "True Face" on behalf of Harris. We know they looked at Trade Directories, as the Dawber link was established, and we also know they had the 1861 census, and the newspaper report of "Incident at Flamborough" but other than that it appears they were not doing much at all!!

Hi Mike,
I don't know the full extent that Harris and his rearcher (whom I beleive was Andy Aliffe) made but I do know that they tried unsuccessfully to find out where old sudden death was educated but unable to find any information. The Flamborough incident was from the Bridlington newspapers which were not available at Hull, so I suppose that might have come from Colindale. I found the Eastern Morning News article about a couple of years ago, but it was not available on microfilm at Hull or Colindale at the time Harris research was carried out. Rgds John |

I have been looking at the eduction aspect for years and can now only assume they were taught at home.
The records for schools during this period are few and far between, and the ones that do exist do not show pupils!! I even managed to track down a school who hired pupils out to families, one of the families paid and sent a recipt to the school, which is at the archives in Hull. Sadly, the "Stephenson" family mentioned were in the Groves area and not Sculcoates!! I did track down the marriage registry of Richard and Isabella all the way out at East Riding Archives, when I am well enough I will take a trip down there to have a look around.

Hi Mike,
Perhaps I can save you a journey, here is what I found at the East Riding Archives back in 2005:- Page 370 24 May 1831 Richard Stephenson parish of Holy Trinity Hull, merchant, bachelor and Isabella Dawber of this parish, spinster, by licence. William Keary officiating minister. Witnesses Robert Dawber and M.A. Stephenson Rgds John |
