Default Will Crooks

A lady named Diane Vriens on one of the Social Ripper pages posted this quote from Will Crooks, who was a British politician ( Labour Party and an MP , born 1859, died 1921 ).

Hi How,

A great paradoxical quote from Crooks!

There is a Will Crooks estate in Poplar (built in the 1930's) and not far from the site of Clarkes Yard. Today, much of the Clarkes Yard site is covered by council flats, erected in 1970's. I few remnants of Clarkes Yard still exist, but like much in this case we're often left grasping at insubstantial shadows of the past.

My regards,

Sean.

Thanks for the additional information, Sean....
Crooks died in the London Hospital (1921) and is buried locally at the Tower Hamlets Cemetery.

IIRC one of the Woolwich ferrys is named after Will Crooks.

The dark alleys were eventually torn down, and in their place they erected blocks of flats.
