Hi Michael.
Can you read/translate French? There a great free newspaper site here if you, can:

http://gallica.bnf.fr/html/und/press...aux-quotidiens

There's lots of Ripper related material that comes up, most of it probably the same as the English papers were printing but maybe there is the odd one off report we haven't seen before. I noticed a Dr Tumblety mention from the 1860's but I wasn't able to find the article in the full page or get the full measure of the report from the excerpt to see if it was anything new or not.

What I hope to find in the newspapers is a little comment somewhere from an otherwise unimportant someone. Like, "Mary Kelly's uncle works in the mines here." Something innocuous that everyone else missed. My suggestion here has to do with my knowledge of certain mining areas in the western U.S. where Irish people congregated.

(I am somewhat at a loss in doing boots on the ground research because I live in the western U.S. However I never forget that relatives of folks in 1888 Whitechapel may have immigrated to America and maybe even went west with the Mormons or to work in various capacities. I was the one who killed the Bridget Kelly hopes by finding her death in New York, decades after Mary Jane Kelly perished in Millers Court.)

I can use that French site. Thanks, Debra!

Thanks Debra but I'm from the Midlands so I can barely speak English.
