There are several articles in recent issues of Fortean Times covering Murder and Mesmerism.

Mike:

The link to Google ( Thanks for sharing,by the way) is a fictional account of Mesmer's life...if you check closely.

Look into my eyes...look closely...you're gettin' sleepy...sleepy...

When I was researching "Newspapers from Hull" I found a report from 1888, that stated a woman had been put under, and ordered to kill someone, but I cannot find it!

Fortean Times ran an article recently on Victorian Mesmerism, and how popular it was.

I read one of them, and fell asleep instantly.

I have that affect on my wife on an evening, usually just after tea!

Wasn't Mesmer the one rumored to have mostly been "pleasuring" women rather than hypnotizing them? His technique included movements from the neck to the diaphragm, which led to some speculating that he was actually taking advantage of sexually repressed or unknowing women.

A ha !! So someone else had used my patented@ moves on women,eh?

Actually,Lavaughn...I am not sure, but I think you might be right. I remember reading about one 19th Century "mesmerist" who employed the "techniques" you mention...but I'll be damned if I could say for sure it was Mesmer.
