W.T. Stead was an interesting character in Victorian times. He made many enemies, all of whom used to disparage him frequently, and they were most chagrined when he died a hero's death aboard the Titanic, after which they were forced to speak nothing but good of him lest they suffer the wrath of an outraged citizenry. One of his most vocal critics was none other than Arthur Conan Doyle.
However interesting he was, his brother I.N. was even more so. This poor fellow was one of those born in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he suffered most dreadfully during the course of the Whitechapel Murders, for he was continually being accused of being the Ripper. The usual sequence of events ran thus:
Constable: "Is that the man that propositioned you, dearie?"
Prossie: "No, it was him, instead."
