Update on my book on Chapman

Nemo posted a question on another thread so rather than take it off topic I decided it's better to post my reply in this correct section...

    Hi folks

The book now contains over 116,000 words. I work on it for about six hours every day.

I could have it finished and published in about 4 weeks, however, a new biography of Abberline is due to be published in September, and so I am holding it back until then, just in case the author can shed any light on Abberline's beliefs with regard to his Chapman-Ripper theory.

If anyone is planning to buy the Abberline biog when it's published I would be most obliged if they would contact me.

Paul Begg suggested a new title for my book:

You've Got Jack the Ripper At Last?
The Life of Serial Killer George Chapman
    .

It's the best anyone has come up with, so that is the working title for now.

The current draft of the cover can be viewed here:

Paul's idea is, as we say in the King's Polish "glupi", Pani...jeśli o mnie , przepraszam, a ja zrobić to lepiej... :

Lady Killer ( Make sure the title is in red)...
    The Life Of George Chapman
    by Helena Wojtczak.

Nah, his idea is okay too....

      Hi Helena and How

Helena, I think the title is great. It nicely tells us that there was suspicion that Chapman was the Ripper and that he most definitely was a serial killer even if he didn't commit the Ripper crimes. The planned cover of the book looks wonderful as well. Good luck with the book, Helena. I somehow doubt that the upcoming biography of Abberline will shed more light on his views about Chapman but you never know. It certainly will be interesting to see if that author has anything new to contribute on the Abberline question.

      All the best

        Hi All,

Personally I'd go for "George Chapman was Jack the Ripper: You've Gotta To Be Kidding."

        Regards,

        Simon

I don't think there should be a question mark at the end there.

If Abberline actually said that, it would have been a statement and not a question.

Wow thank you all for all the replies. To address your points individually:

            How
Yes, I like that title but my hands are tited on this one: "Jack the Ripper" HAS to be in the title or sadly I will get no sales as nobody will be searching for a book on "George Chapman".

            Simon
            Nice suggestion, thanks.

            Chris
Thank you for complimenting my home-made book cover. Glad someone likes it! And thanks for the positive and supportive comments. You are the second person to tell me (m-w-r being t'other) that I need not bother waiting for the new Abberline biog as it won't have any new light to shed on Abb's suspicions, but if the author makes comments of his own on Abb's suspicions might I not want to quote those? (P.S. I've sent you an email cos I need some help locating a source.)

            Stephen
The question mark is crucial to the book because (as Chris suggests) I am questioning Abberline's (alleged) statement.

Try saying You've Got Jack the Ripper At Last? in a very sceptical tone of voice, that is what I am trying to achieve. Sort of like, "So, you think you've got Jack the Ripper at last, do you?"

The other suggestion, which I think came from Martin Fido, is just Jack the Ripper At Last? The Life of George Chapman, Serial Killer.

                Cheers, mate.

I'm busy today trying to make sense of, and quote from, Debra Gosling's newspaper articles on Godley, Abberline and their thoughts on Chapman as the Ripper, one of which was posted on "The Other Place".

It's OK Chris ... it was a question, and someone else provided the answer.

                      Thanks anyway.
