Default William Henry Pigott's Cash Flow In 1880

His father was a well known insurance agent in Gravesend ( The Ultimate Sourcebook, page 91 )....

No matter. This article startled me.

8,000 in 1880 = 896,791.50 in terms of 2017 purchasing power in the U.K.

That's a lotta chump change.

William Henry had a few pubs in his past, How. One of the things interesting bits of information that came from his divorce papers was that although he stayed in common lodging houses in Whitechapel he really didn't need to for lack of a proper home, or for work, as he had wives and contacts in posher parts of London. He seemed to enjoy slumming it.

No, I don't think so, How. His father had a pub at one time and his wife's father too. It must be a misprint if that's the conversion figure? That's a lot of money for a pub?

Debs:

It certainly is a lot of money.

Even if it were 800, that would come out to 89, 679 in British currency.
