Default Thank you all

To all on the thread. I'm a little overwhelmed with the response. I'm at the hospital at the moment with a family emergency so I'll reply soon

Thanks again. It's like being on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and having the best 'phone-a-friend' ever.

With thanks

A pretty stressed Michael

First off guys, thanks for the kind wishes. Things seem ok now. Just the issues we all face with older family, especially when they have a serious illness. Fingers crossed.

Well I really came to the right place! Gary, Robert, Anna, Simon and Phillip...thank you.

Warsash is undoubtedly what it's says. It looks like you've found the man. Interesting to see the connection with the military. After my last post I did think about the 'Miss Hall' address. The 'Lanka' part was on the second line which should have led me away from the double barrelled name suggestion. I looked on google maps but it wasn't really possible to pinpoint the house due to no numbers being visible.
The name Cloudesley immediately rang a bell though. I'm a bit of an old rocker and there's a band with the strange name Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell. So I can only assume that the street is named after him (definately not the band).
There's no dedication or date on the inscriptions so it maybe that it was left by one to the other.

Born in 1883. So let's be clear guys. Are we saying that this guy is definately not Jack?

Thanks again to all

Michael

Anna, I'll let you know if Lechmere's in the book when I've read it.

I can also confirm that neither sample of writing matches the diary!

Robert that's great. I appreciate your help (and everyone else's) It looks like there's no known relationship between the two names in my book then. Possibly just one owner after another?

Thanks again
Michael
