Hi Howard, I have this report filed away in the folder. Some of the names and dates are wrong, but overall it makes interesting reading. "Harry Websters Hotel" is still standing and plays host to some of the finest criminals in East Yorkshire.

Apparently the "Matabele Rebellion" in South Africa, March 1896 began with the killing of a policeman and two natives

I wonder if that is the incident the Jo'Burg policeman is referring to?

It would be amazing if it was, and it turned out to be down to Deeming, as it caused the deaths of many others (Europeans) in the rebellion

It would be amazing, considering Deeming was hanged in 1892, some four years before the rebellion.

Among Deeming's many talents was the ability to reach out from beyond the grave, so I wouldn't put it past him. He also had the ability to be in South Africa and the East End of London at the same time. So don't count this guy out.

Mike:

I figured you had it buddy.
Deeming is used for comparitive purposes more so than virtually every other killer I can think of ( Possibly in part because we function & research within the English speaking world of criminals & crimes).

I know Kurten was big news for a while in Australia (an example of the English speaking world focusing on a non-English speaking nation's crimes and criminals )...but Deeming's crimes were mentioned inordinately for decades.
