Hi Howard. We were talking about this article recently at Casebook, and some suggested a link to a different article about a dcctor who eventually moved out of Britain, but I personally didn't see any link between the two suspects. I don't believe it occurred to anyone at the time that this might refer to Robert Sagar's guy, which I personally think is quite possible. Once again you catch something everyone else missed! I assume you read my acknowledgements in the new Examiner?

Thanks for the kudos....but I'm not sure if it was Sagar....Here's why :

When I saw the calendar year ( 1905 ) I know, as many do, that Sagar and Inspector Fred Froest retired within a matter of one or two months of each other...in the early part of 1905.

In SPE/Skinner's Ultimate, for easy access, we find the City Press article for January of 1905...and it is similar to the content in the piece I placed in the first post.

However, the article in the first post does not state whether the Scotland Yard detective had retired....which sort of encourages me to think that perhaps this may be someone other than Sagar or Froest ( as an outside and unlikely choice to be honest ) who had retired in 1905. The difference between the dates Sagar and Froest retired and this article in the Sunday Chronicle appearing is nearly 11 months.

I remember this. There was some contention on the statement about 'terrible crime in the past decade', when the article was written in Dec. 1905. It was suggested that the reporter was writing a 'retro' article, so to speak, when in fact, his source had made the statements in the clip several years earlier.

Naw, it ain't what you think, How... its just information overload. You probably was curious about this article because it seemed familiar somehow; the same reason it struck your fancy before. I've gone into sporting goods stores and immediately fell in love with a lure that I just knew would catch fish. I'd get home and put it in my tacklebox only to find, not one, but 2 others just like it already there.

Man,that isn't so bad !
I've done the same exact thing you've described...but when I put the lure in the box with the other two...I suddenly remember that I don't fish.
