People:
On this thread, please present your reason(s) for why you would eliminate one, two,or as many suspects as you want to.... It doesn't matter if your reasons leave room enough for a truck to pass through....its more or less an "opinion" thread for the rank and file Forumite. For example, lets take Tumbelty. Now some folks think that a gay man might go to the extremes that Tumbelty is considered as having gone to...and might be the Ripper. You however don't see it that way and might want to mention it. It doesn't matter which suspect it is either. I think you know which suspect I will choose.. ![]() Give 'er a rip, gang.

This is not a single suspect, but rather a group suspect. The royals are the first ones I would eliminate. All the theories I've read on the subject are very flimsy and don't hold up.
![]() Also, I would eliminate Maybrick. I would then eliminate Kosminsky. Again, going by what I've read regarding his mental state, I don't think he had the mental capacity to commit the crimes. It's getting late. I look forward to reading everyone elses suspect eliminations.

Dear DD
Just a quick comment to add to your post....its ironic that the three most "popular" suspect theories in terms of attracting people to Ripperology are usually the first three that people would likewise eliminate ( whether correctly or otherwise ).....Maybrick,Sickert,and the Royals....when people are attracted by "suspects" to the field. They are also the subject matter of the three most profitable books as well.

Though he is by no means a wacko suspect, I would eliminate Barnett, at least for now. The police checked him out and he was OK.

I would eliminate anyone who was not in Whitechapel in 1888 between August and December... that single rule disapplies at least 90% of the named suspects.
And it is that single point which holds back Thomas Cutbush as the prime suspect for the Whitechapel Murders... we don't know where he was at that time. |

I would eliminate all non-descript local chaps, 20-30 years old.
