Default Marriott's book

I finally finished Marriott's "JtR, the 21st Century Investigation" last night, and I'll post up a review tomorrow.

Which edition? The one that doesn't argue that Feigenbaum was the Ripper (1st) or the one that does (2nd)?

I guess mine is the 2nd edition that argues that he was!

I guess it would be the second edition.

I need to pick up a second edition of that somewhere, but then maybe I can just wait for the third edition. Next week when Ripper Notes #28 is out there'll be new information on Feigenbaum available. I'm sending it on to Trevor so he can update or respond as he sees fit.

Default Part One: The Victims....

The first part of the book discusses the victims. This makes up a good chunk of the book but unfortunately consists of little more than quoting the inquest coverage in toto and adding some commentary (from a couple of paragraphs to a couple of pages) at the end. Many of the conclusions/speculations that are presented are weakly, if at all, supported. Most notorious is the "Eddowes apron was a sanitary napkin" and "the missing organs were stolen by medical students" assertions--both of which make little sense and in the case of the latter shows a lack of knowledge of the conditions under which the autopies took place.

part 2 to follow.....
