I saw a post on one site claiming that Dr. George Hodel's son toyed with putting him in the running here but I don't know anything beyond that.

If I recall correctly, the poster said that Hodel tried to tie his dad to Torso through the Degnan murder Chicago.

Some guy named Russell supposedly also confessed to the Degnan murder but I don't know if he has been checked out for Cleveland.

To correct, the guy's name was actually Richard Russell Thomas and he confessed to the Degnan murder while being held in Arizona for molesting one of his own daughters. Chicago had their man though so why be bothered.

I first heard about Degnan and Heirens when I was 11 and our sixth grade teacher treated us to detailed account of the case.

She also gave us a lesson on Leopold and Loeb one day.

I was about thirty before I heard about Cleveland.

I haven't heard that Thomas confessed to any of the other Heirens' murders or was ever suggested as a Torso suspect.

I don't know how old Thomas was but Heirens was certainly too young to be the Torso Killer.

Stan...I think I was in my mid-30's before I heard of the Mad Butcher.
Its funny, in retrospect, how little many Americans knew about the Butcher or H.H. Holmes...or The Bender Family...or The Atlanta Ripper of 1911...or several other s.k.'s that younger Ripperologists find out about rather quickly. For instance, I never knew the Ripper eviscerated his victims until I was in my 40's.

I think I was about thirty also How and even then I just heard the Cleveland Torso name and that the serial case was unsolved. I was about 2 years old when I first heard about the Ripper case but then again only that he killed women and was never caught.
