There is a 38 page pdf on the case to be found here, written by Mike Dash, a contributing editor to Fortean Times.

Look in Panama:

Mike Dash is a very talented writer, I have his Borderlands book which is packed full of stories and the truth behind them.

An interesting case. It was covered on TV - Unsolved Mysteries perhaps. I think they angled toward some sort of accident where they fell into the sea but they gave other possibilities such as that one went berserk and killed all as well as himself.

To me, the evidence, such as it is, suggests that all was well within their dwelling, since all was in perfect order and there was no sign of a struggle. Whatever it was happened outside, and near the noon hour. It is hard to imagine why any of the three would venture outside during a storm, but, since they had to raise their own food and such, I think that 2 of the 3 went outside in their oilskins to tend to the animals (it was December so there were no crops to worry about) and then something happened to cause the 3rd to hurriedly leave the dwelling, as seen in the evidence presented about the overturned chair and the doors. The most likely thing would have been a rogue wave, not unknown in the north Atlantic, that swept over the island, taking the 3 men but not affecting the dwelling. I don't think there was anything said about the presence or lack of the livestock. But a 100 foot wave would have done the trick, and is a much more likely event than UFO abduction, sea monsters, or dimensional gap.
