Traditionally, linen is the gift for the 12th anniversary. So I will send Howard my laundry. Have it clean by Monday, heh heh. I hope you both enjoy your weekend celebration. Congratulations on 12 happy years.

I bet Caroline and Adrian will celebrate their anniversary with a big steak dinner tonight. Wood is the traditional gift for 5 years of marriage, so I will send the toothpicks. I hope you both have many more years of bliss together.

Happy anniversary to all the Browns!

I like what Joe suggested about linen. My washer broke down so I have plenty to send as well. Happy anniversary!

I assumed a frontier woman like you would do your laundry down at the crick, Anna.

I just moved onto my private wildlife refuge on the Snake River. The river is running pretty muddy right now. There are too many ducks and geese nesting on my crick which is kind of boggy and stagnant.

Indeed I do know how to hand wash clothes and will probably start doing it very soon. I can afford and will get a new washing machine but I am having so many difficulties right now that I don't want to choose a new machine when I'm tired and not feeling well.

I always dry my clothes outside on a line. That saves HUGE amounts of money! In my former home, if pipes froze in the winter, I'd run the dryer which was there, which vented under the house. I ran it 8 hours once and it raised the electric bill $10.00. Not a lot for this instance but figure all the hours in a year that a dryer could be used. Clothes smell better when line dried.

(I think line drying or indoor drying is more common internationally? A video from Poland claimed everyone had drying racks in homes instead of dryers. I have also heard line drying is required in Australia?)

Meanwhile, why deprive How and Nina of linen on their linen anniversary? (Except How probably uses scrapple juice for bleach. You know, the Romans and Tudors among others used urine for bleach. Kind of the same thing as scrapple juice I think.)

Not far from How's house the sewer system is completely blocked owing to what's called a ratberg - a pile of rats, all dead from poisoning.

Anna is living in a wildlife refuge on the Snake River. Cool.

I remember back on April 15, 1972 when Evel Knievel tried to fly across the Snake River Canyon in a small rocket.

Perhaps Evel's son, Robbie Knievel, will give Howard, Nina, Caroline, and Adrian a special anniversary gift stunt today by jumping his motorbike over Anna's home !!

Evel Knievel did his stunt clear across the state from where I am. You'd have to go upriver quite a way to Hells Canyon to get another opportunity.

The Snake River has been severely tamed due to massive irrigation use. Deer regularly swim across from my side to the Oregon side, I suppose just to see what's going on.

Still, that's a nice thought for the Browns' anniversaries.

Did his bottom lip quiver and his eyes well up when you told him, Nina?
