Thanks for that, How! It's the first I've heard of an Isle of Dogs Ripper connection.

We've discussed this before on a torso thread but unfortunately I can't locate the discusssion...most torso threads tend to end up quite long and repeptitive for some reason..

        Gary:

Up until now, I was unaware of the location of Millwall...I knew that Middlesbrough was up near Yorkshire.

The follow up has something to do with a sack of dead birds; something like that.

            Debs, Gary...
Here's a longer article concerning this story....and the body was found in Middlesbrough, not Millwall.

The hand was supposed to have been dredged from the Thames and found when the boat reached Middlesborough. I mention a sack of game in the thread but don't have any notes on it now. I think the keywords Picton Castle bring up the whole story in the newspapers, going by memory.

So, it was just a hand that was found, the evil-smelling bag contained guano rather than human body parts.

Here is a map of the Millwall Docks. On the other side of the river were the Surrey Commercial Docks seen in this map also.

I have noted in the past that Timber deals arrived daily at both of these areas. J. Grover & Sons, for example, in the early 1900's (possibly before that also) kept a surplus of timber at the Surrey Commercial Docks. J. Grover was contracted to build New Scotland Yard. I have often wondered if the person responsible for dumping body parts was delivering timber to the various job sites. The "Whitehall arm" was also found in a timber area at Robert Ward and Sons on the river at Pimlico.
