A thread for Jeff Leahy's trip report from his recent visit to the greatest city in the world, a town so nis they named it twice : New York, New York !

I will start by saying Jeff and I had dinner Friday night at Porter House, one of the top steakhouses in NYC. Jeff told me money was no object as he was skimming money off the project and John and Paul would never find out. I agreed to keep the secret close to vest and I have.

Now, the Dom Perignon was flowing....the escorts were giggling....but I was taking notes as I wanted to write a report on the dinner. Unfortunately, I don't remember a great deal other than amyl nitrate, rib eye steak, and Jeff constantly blowing on a vuvuzela.

History makers 2011

Hi Robert

I had a great time in NY. Food, fantastic, people - wonderful, and you were an excellent hoast..

However my trip did have a series piont ie I attended HISTORY MAKERS 2011.

So it might be useful if I give some impressions of the event:

I was surprised..pleasently.. that there was some serious political attitude about what History is? What it means to people...and why it has never been more relivant in modern 'political' terms than it is today.

In short some of these cuddly old men with greying beards still 'kick ass' and want to make programs that make a difference...oh lessons of history

If I can make it link to HISTORY MAKERS it might be interesting for some of you..Ripperology in many ways highlights so many of the problems and challenges our new worlds and technologies face...

I was working and no company expenses were used.

Actually I must thank Robert for picking up the tab and I hope I can return the favour (on BEL expenses) when your next in London...Boat trip?
