  • Links between Jack the Ripper letters

Did anyone here watch the Whitechapel Society talk last night with guest speaker Andrea Nini?
It is not the first time letters have been linked to the same author but I have to say I was impressed by the scientific approach. I just wondered what others thought.

      Hi Amanda

I didn’t watch it but I’ve read Nini’s article about it, it’s very interesting work.

      Here’s a thread about it: https://www.jtrforums.com/forum/lett...ripper-letters

I might add that I personally believe the Dear Boss letters to be genuine, i.e. from the killer, , but of course there’s no proof either way

Is there any documented evidence in the history of communique made by killers (aside from Dear Boss letter) that was sent to a press agency?

I have always found that aspect rather odd in terms of its authenticity. Most I have seen have been sent to specific newspapers or individuals. Jack seems to be a rather aware writer of how best to syndicate and distribute his content.

There's no evidence that any of the Ripper letters were sent by the killer. My thought has been that the only message Jack ever sent was in the murders themselves. The man may have been illiterate. After the "Dear Boss" letter was published in the press, the dam broke and it was open season for members of the public to get their jollies off getting a rise out of the authorities by writing Ripper letters.

              Cheers

              Chris

Hello Chris, I agree that once the letters were published it opened the floodgates, which is why Nini concentrated on the ones before publication.
I don't believe those were written by JtR either, but what was interesting in his research was that the Dear Boss and Saucy Jack were written by the same person and there is strong evidence that the Moab and Midian letter was written by the same person too.

Hello Gary, I believe Rippercast will be publishing the talk. What I liked about it was that we not blinded by the science, although I have to admit the graphs and tables baffled me, but Andrea talked us through them. It was really interesting.
