I for one would like to hear more about Robert Eighteen-Bisang's Dracula talk. Was it very similar to his Rip article/casebook dissertation of 2005? Or did it contain new ideas and information?

Part of his old dissertation came up in an off-site discussion I had recently and I wonder what, if anything, new was said.

I'm sincerely sorry I can't provide a detailed report. All the notes I took on my little PDA somehow got toasted by the time I returned home. Seems appropriate given my brain is somewhat in the same condition.

I can say with certainty that I particularly liked Neil Bell's presentation (combined with Jake's 3D work) on the Mitre Square killing. Neil was a bit soft spoken, and hence hard to hear, but the content was excellent.

I just wish I had Jake's Mitre Square artwork to consult when I was writing my first book. Makes you really feel that you're inside that square that night.

Yes, I am softly spoken and fully aware of it. It was an issue of mine and raised it with Adam many months ago. He told me that we would be have mikes and speakers and stuff so would be ok.

The problem I had was that the speakers were right next to me. Therefore, to my ears, I sounded like Jake with a megaphone, blasting into my left ear. As someone not use to such kit I can only apologise....sorry.

To make up, here are some of the images used in the talk...and some that were left out. Many thanks to Jake Luukanen who, as I type, should now be on a well earned break in the Finnish Countryside with his daughter. Oh the offers he has to come back to...what a guy.

Ah yes, the speakers. Understood.

I have always believed that one of the things every conference should do is have a quiet moment with the presenters to explain microphone mechanics, unless they've had a few years under their belt and understand those tricky critters. I was having trouble with my mic at the Whitechapel Society. Wasn't the mic's fault. It was mine. I'm usually a lot better than that. I have made a mental note to resolve that problem.

The only reason I mentioned your soft spoken voice was that I was literally hanging on every word! The presentation was awesome. I'm a very visual sort so to be able to take a tour through Mitre Square pushed all my buttons.

I found myself staring at the conference backdrop at the forlorn figure trudging along in the semi-darkness and wondering "What was it like?" You and Jake got me as close to that moment as possible until someone invents a time machine.

Fabulous images of Mitre Square, Monty. Many thanks. I would have loved to have been in Wolverhampton to meet you. Perhaps at a future conference? Donna and I will likely make the 2009 UK conf, wherever it happens to be.

As for using a microphone, I often make do without one and can usually make my voice carry. My uncle was a music hall comedian and prided himself that he could reach the back of the theatre without a mike! The mike is often a hassle anyway because of feedback and distortion.

None of the speakers were less than terrific, but your talk and presentation was over the top superb, just incredible, Monty. You may have been soft spoken but you could hear a pin drop in the room as we were all transported. Can't wait to see it again on the CD !!

The whole idea, with the article as well, was to take you back to 1888. Let you walk the beat, get turned out of the nick with Kate, put you in the uncomfortable position of being the killer (which, as Jake and others testify, was something of a struggle for me. However, I didnt want you to feel nicey with the talk. Wanted to throw in some discomfort as I ultimately felt that, amongst the joviality, some things should never be forgotten), put you back in Watkins skin as you found Kate, then Harveys trip up Church Passage at 1.41am and so on.

If Jake and I have done that, then Im happy.
