  • What, no one?

It was Tom Clancy who was too chicken to fly so soon after 9/11.

    Wolf.

Yes, Wolf, you are correct. It was the late American thriller writer Tom Clancy who was advised not to fly after 9/11. I understand he was working on a novel about a latterday Ripper. I don't know what stage it was in when he passed away on October 1, 2013. Apparently Paul Begg gave him some advice on the project. I will contact you privately about you picking up a prize.

      • London Blue Badge Guide Delianne Forget reports for Ripperologist magazine on RipperCon in Baltimore, April 8-10. If you weren't there, read about what you missed! Pick up the pdf at http://www.ripperologist.biz/pdf/ripperologist149.pdf or else email contact@ripperologist.biz to get the Kindle version.

DELIANNE FORGET is a London Registered Blue Badge Guide, a City of London Guide and a Clerkenwell and Islington Guide. She is also a Freeman of the City of London. She always jokes to her tours that she has several insecure careers: she is also a professional actress, singer and voice-over artist. Recently she play Elizabeth Snowden in ‘Edward Snowden—The True Story’ at the Waterloo East Theatre, and read the audio books of the Nobel Prize winning ‘Dear Life’ and ‘A Tree Grows in Brooklyn’ for the Royal National Institute of Blind People. Delianne is also working on a writing career. She is currently editing her first historical novel. This is her first article for Ripperologist.

          • Hi all

My understanding from Jonathan Menges is that the other talks from RipperCon in Baltimore will be released individually each on a succeeding upcoming weekend. I think this is reasonable given the work that is entailed in readying each podcast as well as in making each of the speaker's slides available. Look out for the podcasts to go on line at http://www.casebook.org/podcast/.

Keep up the good work, Jonathan. It is much appreciated!

            Best regards

            Chris

                  • Brian has written an engaging account of going to RipperCon in Baltimore. Here's a sample:

Baltimore, Baseball and Boogeymen: My trip to RipperCon, Jack the Ripper–True Crime Conference, April 8–10
                    By Brian Young

Oh really… A Jack the Ripper conference….how…..interesting.” Those were last words said to me by the woman sitting next to me on the plane the entire way to Baltimore. But I didn’t mind. I was excited to be on my way from Buffalo, New York, to my very first Ripper conference! Besides, I was used to that reaction, as I’m sure we all are, when our interest in Jack the Ripper comes up.

For those of you who may think RipperCon would be nothing more than “all you ever needed to know about Jack but were afraid to ask” I’m here to set the record straight. Sure you will get your fix of the Ripper, but there was much more to it than that.…

Watch for Brian Young's entire report on RipperCon upcoming in the June issue of the Whitechapel Journal!
