I agree for what its worth...
I also think people, unfortunately, like taking the easy way out when it comes to having to work on issues or ideas in which there is no easy way towards a resolution without breaking a sweat.
That's cool for most routine things....but not in our thing.
I have a theory as to why some people have it in for Ripperologists. They develop an interest in the case and come up with a theory or angle and decide they ought to share their insights with like-minded people. When they make their way here or Casebook, they discover the subject is vastly more complex than they'd ever imagined and their naive 'insights' are ripped to shreds by people who've been studying the case for more than a few minutes. Of course, it's the Ripperologists who are stupid, not the genius who, after reading a book or two, has solved the case.
You've written a Ripper related book....you've spent a lot of time organizing your material to present to the public and your colleagues....and along comes a guy who has to pay for a date with a girl....occasionally bathes...and is sitting in the dark in his parent's basement....who does his best to ruin the efforts of others.
