Yes - I was the mystery. The biggest mystery being why they asked me!

My talk was on Frances Glessner Lee and the Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death.

A quick word on the other speakers:

Trevor Bond presented the well researched talk on "A Terrible Tale of 1888" about the murder of Bensley Lawrence at Tunbridge Wells by Charles Dobell and William Gower - Dobell would be the last under 18 hanged in the UK. A case that our very own How and Nina have written about in the Rip.

Neil Bell presented a fascinating talk based on his book "Capturing Jack the Ripper" where he looked at the recruitment and daily life of a Victorian Bobby in Whitechapel as well as some newly identified photographs of officers involved in the case and a look at their disciplinary records.

Finally, Adam Wood presented just a small (but fascinating) section of his research into the life of Swanson and a new theory on the Seaside home that was definitely food for thought.

MC duties were done by Philip Hutchinson (who even wore a rabbit outfit to introduce Adam) who ensured we were thoroughly insulted before speaking - much to the audiences amusement!

It reminds me seeing a miniature of the backyard of 29 Hanbury 9 years ago..with Stephen Ryder in Baltimore. One of the delegates had made it and brought it in... I remember thinking of making a replica of the entire street out of various size pieces of polyurethane foam...which could be done if I had the dimensions of the originals. But time being what it is, I put the idea on the back burner.

For those not aware, one of Philip's other jobs is as a DJ and he wears the costume when DJ'ing. I dared him to wear it at some point during the day and Philip, being the good sport he is, did so for Adam's intro. I'm sure all delegates appreciated the light heartedness.
