  • Philip Sugden's Complete History Of JTR

I read Philip Sugden's excellent book (IMHO) years ago. Since then, I have not come across anything else he has published.

Is he just a compiler or a genuine researcher? Whatever he is, he does it well.

What do we know about this fellow?

    Hello Whitechurch

Philip Sugden, much like his brother John Sugden, who was written on the War of 1812, one of my other interests, is an academic with interests in a number of fields. Thus he is not focused solely on the Whitechapel murders -- but nonetheless has produced one of the universally acclaimed books in the field.

    Best regards

He's a genuine researcher, he's also researched sources in Paris, and he used to teach at the University of Hull.
      Best regards,

Philip Sugden also wrote The Life and Times of Jack the Ripper, published by Siena, 1996, ISBN 0 75251 541 1. It is a small pocket book packed with details on the crimes and runs at 68 pages long, once again coming down on the Chapman as Ripper theory.

Seems to me to have been one of the more reclusive writers in the field in modern times, but certainly an excellent one.

Does anyone know whether he intends to make any more forays into Ripperology in the future?

          Cheers,
          Adam.
