Being at the sci-fi convention over the weekend reminded me of these folks:
http://www.artc.org/ The Atlanta Radio Theater Company. Not just dramatic readings, but background music, sound effects, and all the rest that one would find from old-time radio plays. They perform everything live, and record their performances for release on audio CDs, which they sell on their website as well as at their public performances. These folks are really good at their work.
They'e done several Robert Heinlein, H. G. Wells, and H. P. Lovecraft stories as well as original works in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, romance, comedy, gaslight, etc. Some of their stuff is saved for their live performances, however, so the only way to hear those is to go see them. They show up at different conventions and do regular podcasts.
Click on the link and check them out for yourself.
