There’s also the fact Albert seems to have no records in England after 1901.

Thanks for posting the link to the previous Casebook and Forums threads on the Bachert family. They’re fascinating. The information uncovered by Debra Arif, Paul Begg, Jerry Dunlop, Chris Scott and others was really impressive.

I didn’t see much about the parents in these earlier threads, so perhaps the following hasn’t been previously posted here.

Judging by the 1911 Census, John Bachert Sr. appears to have remarried after Georgina's death--- to a Welsh woman named Elizabeth Thomas around the year 1905. (I'm assuming her brother is the visiting prison warder, so her name was Thomas). They are living at 19 Holywell Row, Finsbury EC.

I'm not readily finding any marriage certificate. It would be interesting to see it.

John Jr. and his wife Maud from Barbados can be found in Johnson Street (north of Cable Street) SGE in 1911. The address is not too far from Backert's last known address in Sidney Street, and they must have kept a fairly stable home because Maud checked into an infirmary from the same address several years later, suffering from dropsy.

With his family still kicking around the East End his disappearance is all the more difficult to fathom. I think his occupation of an engraver is how we'll eventually find him, but I've looked at a lot of engravers and haven't found any joy.

The only thing I can readily find is a John Bachert married in 3Qt 1906 (St Pancras). The bride might have been Sophia Elizabeth Norton.

          Hi RJ

She is age 50 in this census and the visiting prison warder is 46. Maybe brother?

            Hi Jerry.

Yes, I noticed my mind fog and edited it. Obviously not a son--but as you say, more likely a brother.

There's a John Bachert who died in Shoreditch and was buried in Islington, 26 January 1926. His age is given as 93, so I'm thinking he's our man. Also an Elizabeth Bachert, died in Shoreditch in 4Qt 1928. Her date of birth is estimated as 1857 rather than the 1860 on the 1911 Census.

There's a pay-per-view website that gives the details of the burial plot in Islington, but no Albert Bachert shows up in the search engine.

I took a look at these burial records, and it was disappointing. They weren't family plots, apparently. Georgina Bachert is buried in St. Pancras Cemetery, London Borough of Camden, while John Bachert is at the Burial Ground at Finchley, Islington. Grave K/21608. Elizabeth Bachert is also buried in Islington, but plot K/21608. John Bachart's address at the time of his death is listed as 82 Worship Street, Shoreditch.
