    Interesting to see that word 'deplore' used in a sense of 'weep.'. Used that way on one of Druitt's death notices too. Nowadays if something is 'deplored' or 'deplorable' it carries a pejorative meaning.

      Same way the word 'gay' is used differently today compared to back when you were a kid in the 1850's, Bob.

        Back in the 1970s I knew of an ice cream parlour called the Gay Parfait which had an 1890s theme. There was no double meaning intended though as I recall 'gay' was already used with the other meaning.
