Piper was a contemporary of Jesse Pomeroy. These two, along with 'Lone Wolf' Walters in 1925, were the purveyors of panic in Beantown long before the Boston Strangler series.

No doubt there had been other solo serial killers ( the duo, The Harpe Brothers, predate Piper ) whose names we'll never know......but Piper might be the worst known serial killer in America's first 100 years.
Up until today I never heard of him.
